My eyes were bothering me today while I was on the train, just felt irritated/itchy. And, I was rubbing them quite a bit.
Haven't bothered me since (ok other than being QUITE aware of them right now). I just looked in the mirror, and one eye is quite red .... but only in the inner corner and somewhat to the middle. Its' not all red in the spot, but more like lots of red veins, like a road map. I don't see a stye (sp?), or any issue with eyelid etc.
It has been years since I've had pinkeye, but I vaguely recall that in that case the whole eye is red, but I'm not sure??
Maybe I broke some blood vessels in my over zealous rubbing (what the heck, did I not realize I was rubbing my eyes)?
I did some searching about pink eye etc.
I'll see how it looks tomorrow, and could always pop into my doc tomorrow so he can check it out.
I work out of my home, so no issue spreading it to an office, if its pinkeye.
Any thoughts? Pink eye?
Thanks,
TieKitty

I have that problem sometimes when I get something under by contact lens. I'll rub it and the next day most of my eye will be red. The first time it happened I was concerned because it seemed to be moving around my eye, but I was told by my Dr. that I had broken a blood vessel and the blood would eventually settle toward the bottom and then go away, which it did.
As a matter of fact, I'm just getting over an episode of this. It started last week and is just now almost gone.
I might add that I take a blood thinner, so any irritation is worse than if I wasn't taking it.
If you don't have any drainage from your tear duct I would doubt that it was pink eye, but I am not a doctor. If you're worried I would go see him/her.

Do you get allergies? My eyes get really itchy when it's allergy season, when I am dusting, or whenever there is something in the air that is irritating them. I will literally have to sit on my hands to stop myself from rubbing.
Usually the itch fades, and the eyes stay red for a bit.

I've had what you describe a number of times. Seems to be the result of rubbing or an irritant in the air. I've never treated it (always goes away in a day) but maybe drops would help.

Thanks everyone.
I am going to see how it looks tomorrow morning and go from there.
Tiekitty, I having a freeling that I just rubbed it way tooooo much and a bit too overzealous.
Angelina, I do have allergies, but hayfever, so not the season for it. And, strangely, I seem to be outgrowing it, since I only get a few bad days. Not that I'm complaining.
Canice, funny that you should say eye drops. I can barely watch a TV commercial for Visine. And, I practically have to leave the room if someone is taking their contacts out. So here's hoping eyedrops won't be coming my way.
Thanks again.

lol, I get so freaked out by eye stuff that the dog's vet had to put a note in the file (I peeked) saying that a tech should assist with the tear counts, not "Candice". Every time I watched them stick that paper tab in the dog's eyeball I about passed out :p.
No drops or contacts in my future, I'm afraid.
BTW, when I say "assist" with the tear count, I mean...hold the dog and pat her head :p
I opened this because the last cold I had seemed to make my eyes itchy. I was using a lot of drops and about to think something was wrong when it cleared up on it's own.
If eye drops bother you, maybe you could try an eye wash. It's basically a buffered saline solution with a cup you hold up, cover your entire eye and then tilt your head back a little and blink and look around to rinse. I find it can be more soothing than a few drops.
If you are starting pink eye, you will likely notice some gooky discharge at the corners of your eye or along the lid, especially in the morning or anytime your eyes have been closed (not blinking) for a while. Hope that doesn't happen.

Beth,
Phew, no pink eye. My eye is much less red -- and I'm guessing it will be gone in the next day or two. Thanks for the info about what to watch for.
I'm thinking it must have been from too much rubbing, but I'll keep an eye :D on it.
Canice,
That would be me too.
Thanks again everyone.

So better wash your eyes with cold water. Trust me, your eyes would get much relieved.
Trust a spammer? Hilarious! :D
