Last summer, we had a new garage built on our property. From tear-down to completion it took a few weeks and there were contractors in our yard for a lot of that time. We told our neighbors on either side and I even baked each household some cookies after a particularly long and noisy day of construction.
Well, we had a small problem with the garage and the concrete guy came here to fix it today. He came to the door to tell me he was done and asked me if I ever smoothed things over with the old lady (his term) across the alley. Apparently, she complained to them every day about the noise and about the horrible neighbors who never told her about the construction.
She is right in that it never occurred to me to talk to the neighbors across the alley and I should have done so. I don't know her except by sight. It ticks me off; if I have an issue with a neighbor, I discuss it with her and don't complain about her to other people. At the same time, this is 8 months ago. Would you do anything at this point? I genuinely feel bad that I neglected to mention this to her at the time, but it was not malicious. I was exhausted and ill much of the late summer and just didn't think of it.
We will have some minor work done this spring and summer and of course I will tell those neighbors this time.
