Hello runners!

I'll kick us off this week. I am heading up for my run now, which means I don't have anything to report just yet. I'd been planning on today being a long run, but I am feeling particularly sluggish and tired. Once I get moving, maybe the juices will start flowing.

What are your weekend/holiday plans? We're in town for Easter and will likely do an egg hunt and special dinner. I'm thinking of making the stuffed pork loin posted over on the other BB (it escapes me who posted it now). The kids on are spring break next week. We'll go to Mammoth on Wednesday for a few days of skiing. That is to say, the guys will be skiing and I'll be in the lodge reading. :p (I bet it pains Robyn to read that!)

Happy, happy all!

Hi TKay! Thanks for starting us off. Hope your run goes well and you're able to do as much as you wanted. Your Easter plans sound fun, as does your getaway. Skiing sounds hilarious today (see below for why).

It's HOT here. I just went for a run and also was sluggish. I'm sure the weather didn't help. It was a lovely time to be out, though. I stopped by the pond for a few minutes to take it all in - the folks strolling on the paths or sitting and enjoying the view, the kids coming to the pond after church, the nice breeze off the lake itself. I am now sipping a big post-run smoothie.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! We don't have huge plans but I'm at the moment I'm just enjoying "being" :)

Here's hoping you had a better than expected run, Tkay! Your weekend plans do sound very nice and family oriented. Hope it is rejuvenating to sit and read and watch the skiiers go by! :)

Natasha, good for you for living in the moment! Sounds like a nice day and a good idea to stop and take it all in. Hope your weekend is relaxing and enjoyable as well!

I have not run for a couple of days, and I am OK with that. Lot's going on at work, and I just let it go. I plan to do the TM here soon, as it is raining today, and tomorrow will be my scheduled 5 mile run for this week. That's the plan anyway... :D

DS will be arriving home this afternoon/evening. DD is in the LR making campaign posters (running for class office). My brother called me this week and suggested I have a family Easter dinner on Sunday :p, so of course we are. It is supposed to be pretty nice, so we are planning to grill kababs after church. Not traditional, but I doubt anyone will complain. ;) There will be about 9 of us, and my brother is bringing a couple of lemon pies, so it shoud be pretty easy.

How did the running skirt work out, Susan?

Vicci, I have been thinking of you and your MIL. How did everything go?

Robyn, your running group sounds like a real motivator for you! Don't you just love it when things like that work out so well? You are really knocking down those running times, too!

Les, I know you are swamped right now, so good luck with all of that, and I hope you have some very meaningful Easter services in the next few days.

Off to the store....with DS arriving soon, I must get more food!
A LOT more....

Quick pop-in.

Kathy - LOL about needing to buy lots of food. I have one big eater (my 10 y.o.) and one nibbler (8 y.o.). I can't imagine what the teenage years will be like for the former! If you're going to host Easter at your place, the way you're doing it sounds just about right. Hope you get in that 5-miler and that it goes well.

Nat - Heat, huh? I'm not used to hearing that from you. :D I agree that stopping and enjoying the moment is a good thing. Enjoy being, whatever that entails this weekend.

I got in 50 on the TM. I wasn't speedy, but then, I rarely am. :)

...coasting a little...
Or maybe it's fighting sleep (I got up at 5:30 this morning for a 1 hour vigil at school) since service starts again in 55 minutes. It's been a very moving Holy Week for me so far although today has dragged along a little. But first to greetings - thanks to TKay for starting this week and I hope you enjoy Mammoth. I hope the skiing goes well. I'm with Nat with all the heat too - it was 75+ here today.
Nat - I hope it's not too warm up your way, that would be no fun what so ever. Great job just being... taking lessons? ;)
Kathy - DS showing up? Not enough food in the house (or on the planet)? I hope it's a great celebration for you.

Although it's been pretty exhausting physically and stretching emotionally (hard to believe?) - it's been a fabulous week so far. One more service tonight - following up on 3 hours this morning. 1 hour led by our priest and nearly 2 hours of reflective readings about the Stations of the Cross (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stations_of_the_Cross). Very moving. Just the one left tonight but probably won't have dinner until about 8:30-8:45 (since I had lunch at 3:30). Then 35 minute drive home. Still, wouldn't trade the week for anything.

Happy trails and if I have the energy a ride tomorrow since it's supposed to be 80+,
Les

Too sleepy for individual replies this evening.

DH was at his persuasive best and MIL has agreed to move. AND she actually remembered that she agreed to this the next day! We've spent 2 days packing, with many more to go. The movers come next Friday, SIL will drive her mother back the following Monday and stay with her for a few days to acclimate her into the new place.

I feel totally out of control. The amount of stuff in that 2-bedroom apartment boggles my mind. We can't possibly fit it all into the new place, so we will try to sell the excess furniture and move everything else into our basement. :o

My breathing is better, and it hasn't been hard to cut back on the exercise since it's been so crazy around here. I did 30 minutes of walking on Wednesday, and am easing back into running with a 30 minute walk/ run today. I don't know how I could deal with all of this if I didn't get out and expend frustration!

Oh, and my walk/ run at 2pm today-- 84F! Wow.

Bed calls. We're heading to my parents' for a couple of days tomorrow (for a break. And chocolate.). Have a wonderful Easter weekend, everyone! Next week, you all can work off those coconut eggs... :p

Hi everyone!

I sort of missed a week of this thread...oops!

Tkay-sounds like you have a good week planned. I'd be skiing, given the chance. :)

Natasha, I saw a post from a FB friend who is up that way about the weather too. It does seem strange being that warm there this time of the year! Hopefully spring returns. Enjoy your weekend just "being". That sounds wonderful.

Kathy, good luck on your five mile today. It sounds like you have a busy weekend planned w/ the family coming for dinner. Enjoy!

Leslie, it sounds like you've had an incredible week. I hope you are able to get on the bike today and relax a bit.

Viccy, it sounds like you've had an exhausting time lately! Here's hoping you have an enjoyable and restful few days off.

Robyn, I'm glad you've found such a great running group! I'm sort of where you were probably a year ago with the running group here. I've been once, but they were all good, experienced runners. I'm not there yet.

My trip to Atlanta last week was enjoyable. I didn't run, but we did do a 2+ mile hike. I did about a 6 mile run the day after I returned, and it wasn't bad. I've been stretching a lot and just hoping everything stays together. :) I had a crazy work week, so skipped the gym all week but will get back into it this week.
Yesterday was a day off of work, so I met my cousin and we did a 10 mile run along the Oklahoma River. It was a gorgeous day. The early morning started off with horrible thunderstorms (lots of wind damage in my area), but it cleared up and was a clear, barely windy, sunny day in the high 60s for the run. I got a sunburn! Anyhow, the first 6-7 miles weren't bad, but I was gassed at the end. I feel OK today with just a little soreness behind one knee. Shins actually feel fine (amazingly)! My pace was horrible, but I'm trying not to worry about that.

The half is 3 weeks from tomorrow. I have a 10K next weekend. I know it'll be here quickly and am trying not to stress about it!

Happy Easter everyone!

TKay

Les - It fills my heart to hear you talk about your week. I'm so glad to know it's been wonderful for you (if a bit exhausting too).

Vicci - I'm sending virtual support for all you and dh are handling right now. Hang in there. I completely understand that overwhelming feeling.

Jennifer - Sounds like the rest did your shins some real good! That's fantastic. I'm impressed with your run. You'll be ready for your race, for sure.

Finished my taxes and still have time for a run before dinner. Hmm. Should I get moving or relax? Tough call. :D

Reporting 5 miles done, and it was a good strong run! Making up for my last few slacking days, I guess. Beautiful day out. I can only hope for the same next Saturday.

Vicci, I confess to dipping into the Easter Bunny's stash myself yesterday as I was in dire need of chocolate. Hey! I had to carbo load for my 5 miles, didn't I? :p (The bunny had plenty to spare....) Glad to hear your DH was able to convince your MIL to the move. It sounds like a great place. Hope you get all the rest and chocolate you need this weekend. :)

Jennifer, I wouldn't stress about the 10K, especially since the first 6-7 miles of your long run went well. Just think of it as another scheduled longer run. Glad to hear the stretching and all has helped and you didn't have any major pains after your 10 miler. Hang in there!

Tkay, congrats on the taxes! Hope you either get a nice refund or else at least send off a small check! Always a tough call....relax or run.....what did you do?

Happy Easter to all!

Les, I imagine you will be at home passed out any moment if you're not already. Congrats on making it through Holy Week!

Natasha, I always have trouble as the weather gets warmer. I'm not looking forward to 90 degree runs.

Tkay, so did you run yesterday?

Vicci, I hope you enjoyed your time with your parents.

Jennifer, my run group is actually amazing for beginners. In fact, on Saturday morning mcgeiger joined us and we went around and said names and how far we were going. She included that it was her first outdoor run since last fall and everyone cheered for her. They're just a great group of encouraging people. I hope that you can find one that is just as good.

Kathy, has DS eaten you out of house and home yet?

Well, I got in a great 4.3 mile run yesterday (it was scheduled to be 4) but the one BIG hill of course was into a stiff headwind. As in 28 mph wind sustained gusting to over 40. Ouch. Then celebrated Easter by skiing today. It was a glorious day on the mountain. Only 2 more weekends until we're down to just a couple of areas open. Vail closes the 18th. I'll ski hard until then, then take break for a weekend or two. Then we have a big party planned at Arapahoe Basin for Mother's Day which will end my season. That makes this year's ski season just shy of 8 months. Life ROCKS! :D

not many brain cells left. Happily, done with 14 events in 8 days and ~7 hours in church between 8pm last night and 1 pm this afternoon. Great week and the brain was firing on all cylinders although my body is beat. Had dinner with ~45 of my classmates tonight - potluck at campus. There was a roast, ham, and all the fixings to go with it. A wonderful time celebrating Easter.

I wish I had more time to give individual greetings but I'm pretty much mentally shot right now. I rode for an hour yesterday afternoon and it was great. Luckily, tomorrow is a holiday - Easter Monday and school is Closed. :D To catch up on sleep and checking in with friends.

Glad you're bouncing back Jennifer and tha tyou're healing up nicely Vicci. Fading fast (didn't get home from church last night until 10:45 and left this morning at 6:45) so it's time to hit the skids.

Happy trails and I'll check in tomorrow,
Les

Les - I'm so glad you had a great Holy Week! And sneaking in a bike ride, to boot, is impressive. Congrats. You must be exhausted

JJ - Great news about your shins feeling better. I think you have a great attitude going into your race. I agree - definitely don't worry about your pace right now.

Robyn - Wow, your running group sounds more social than mine. Very cool. Extra cool that Mcgeiger joined you! I love skiing on holidays. Definitely have never ski'd on Easter or Mother's Day!

Nat - we had that same early warm spell last week. We're still above normal temps. I keep waiting for another frost to hit us

Vicci - Excellent news about your MIL. Kudo's to your DH. That's a tough discussion to navigate

Kathy - Hope your Easter feast went well & you had enough food for all. Is your half marathon this weekend??!!

Well, I can report 2 successful runs in the new running skirt....and I'm in love! It's super comfortable. I kind of feel like I'm ready to play tennis. It's a very cool feeling to run & feel simultaneously strong & feminine.

Thurs - Killer hill repeats with my running club. About 4.5 miles. My quads are so tired!
Fri - I joined a pool & got in my first swim of the year! It felt great
Sat - 60 min yoga class. New teacher (to me), and he's really fantastic
Sun - 60 min run. I varied my route from my usual, and that was a much needed mental jolt. I also made bunny cut-out cookies. OMG - definite OD situation!
Today - Planning a bike ride with DH

TKay

Quick run by.

I didn't do a thing over the weekend except take the pooch for long walks. It was lovely because the kids rode their bikes while dh and I chatted and strolled with the dog. Today, an hour on the TM (including walking warm up and cool down). Tomorrow, something mixed and then off to Mammoth. Hoping for some snow-play and maybe hiking--or at least walking.

Sorry, no time for personal conversations this time. Running out. Cheers to all!

Hi all!

Les, congrats for getting through the week and I hope you are enjoying a day of P&Q.

Vicci, hugs to you. That's good that your DH was able to convince MIL to move, but sounds like you're still going through a lot. Hang in there.

Kathy, good luck to your DD in the election!

Susan, glad you're enjoying the skirt.

TKay, sounds like a relaxing weekend. Enjoy Mammoth!

Jennifer, welcome back from Atlanta :)

Robyn, your group sounds very nice. How fun that you could run with McGeiger.

I had a really good run yesterday. :) Not sure yet what I'll do tonight. The gorgeous weather ends tonight for a few days.

Thank you all - last week was fantastic and a blast. Exhausting but enriching. And I was able to sneak a couple mind helping exercise sessions in along the way.

Vicci - It sounds like you're making progress with your MIL. I'm quite happy that my mother and father moved into a retirement place of their own volition and on their own terms. It sounds like a long road lies ahead but you're on the way.
Robyn - I love my running group too. It sounds like you're having a great time with them and they are helping you improve your running.
TKay - Good job on your run and have a good trip to Mammoth.
Nat - Good you got a good run in before the weather changed. Did you enjoy a little outside time with DH and Cabot this evening?

I tried to sleep in this morning but it seems that LW misunderstood that I didn't have class this morning so she gently woke my up saying "don't you have class at 8:45 (it was 7:45)." To which I said "no, it's Easter Monday and the campus is closed." So I got up and did some work around the house. Then I took a long ride this afternoon (~19 miles); it was grand and a bit warm but not bad.

Tomorrow - no classes but I've got work to do for Wednesday and prep for my last interview before I get Ordained in June on Thursday. This interview will be about an hour with a group from my diocese and they'll have the final say about my "suitability for ordination." I'm not worried about it - just have to drive ~3 hours each direction and then ~ an hour of interview.

Happy trails all... Les

No energy for chatting tonight. I skied very hard yesterday ending the day with the quads quivering in exhaustion I think contributed to by Saturday's run. Urged by my coach last night to do an ice bath to help them recover for today I went for the cold tap water bath. Ugh, those things hurt but they work. Today I had a 1/2 mile warm up and cool down with a 2 mile progression run. Honestly, I'm disappointed as the first 3 splits I was supposed to keep getting faster but they were essentially even. I turned it on for the last split but I'm disappointed overall. But, I'm exhausted and I had multiple people from the group say they couldn't keep up with my ski and run schedule so not to worry about it. It's 8:20 and I'm headed to bed.

One last post before heading out of town. It seems I'm pressed for time a lot right now. I picked up a new (really old, but just starting up again) client who has me jumping through hoops before I leave. It's good though. This will make up for the major account that just left. Whee!

Nat - Hope you get in something good before the weather turns.

Les - Sorry LW woke you but glad you got in some good time on the bike. Good luck with the interview day, drive and all.

Robyn - I think you're being way too hard on yourself. Imagine how strong your legs will be and how much more oomph they'll have for your runs once ski season is over. (I know you don't like to hear those words in the same sentence: "ski season" and "over" :D.)

Susan - Three cheers for the running skirt! Great workouts too.

KathyB - Hooray for your successful 5-miler. As for taxes, it will be a refund. Don't know why I put it off every year.

Doing some weights and core work this morning. Then packing up for our time in Mammoth. The boys are thrilled. This is the pre-trip period of time when I start to get all panicky and worry that I didn't pack jammies for everyone or forgot milk or whatever. No matter how many times dh says, "We'll buy what we don't have," I just can't seem to let go of the nerves. Crazy-making, but true. I hope to report some killer snow hikes, but we shall see. Dh's aunt said they just got another three feet dumped on them. Should be beautiful.

Have a great rest of the week, everybody.

Tkay - Hope you have a stellar trip! Kudos on the new client, too. I need to get me one of those ;-)

Robyn - Ditto what Tkay said. Speedwork is super hard, and the serious stuff is designed for pros. It is not bad at all if your splits don't get faster. Your body is still benefiting from the speedwork. Following on the heels of a killer ski session, your legs are just getting stronger and stronger. You go girl!

Les - Too funny about your wakeup call! Hope you were able to shuffle around & have a leisurely morning anyway, for a change. And good luck on the upcoming interview.

Yesterday was a great bike ride with DH. He has been very very good for my training! We got in 33 miles on a tough, hilly course. It's one of my favs, so I hope to start doing this one regularly.

Today, I just returned from a 45 min run. Legs were a bit tired, but it felt good to get out. It was misting the whole time, but once I got going it didn't really bug me.

Hi everyone! :D

TKay, have a wonderful time.

Susan, awesome job on that ride.

Robyn, glad you're making the most of the rest of ski season.

Les, nice job on your ride, too. That's cute about LW waking you up :)

Hi to Kathy, Jennifer, Vicci, and everyone else.

Had a good spin yesterday. I think I'll take tonight off - got a couple of things I have to finish up. I also need to figure out dinner, but am thinking simple. Peanutty noodles with tofu and veggies, perhaps? It's a good old standby.

Take care,
Natasha

Hi all! I have taken a couple of days off due to other stuff going on....trying to get DS back to school after break and a very long Dr. appt with DD today (waiting room, indeed!). I did walk on the TM yesterday, but just didn't have it in me to do more. Working tomorrow, so I decided to shoot for a last 2-2.5 mile run on Thursday and call it good. Hopefully DH and I can go drive the race route Thursday on his lunch hour so I have some idea what to expect. The half is at least 45 min from our house and starts at 7AM Saturday, so we will have to be up really early!

Natasha, I may need to learn about your quick and easy standby! BTW, we watched Zombieland over the weekend (DS brought it home), and I am with you. I had no expectations, and it was actually not too bad. :p

Good job on your bike ride and damp run, Susan. Nice to have your own personal coach! :)

Have a great trip, Tkay! Your worries remind me of the mom who always made the family turn around and go back home to make sure she had unplugged the iron. One year, about an hour out, she started fretting and asked her DH to turn around. He stopped the car, opened the trunk, and pulled out the unplugged iron! :D Relax and have a good time!

Sounds like you are getting in some great workouts, Robyn, even if you aren't happy with your times. I am sure it will all work out over time....just have to be patient. I am glad the ice baths do the trick for you, but I am pretty sure you will never convince me to try one. Brrrrrr!

Did you enjoy your day off today, Les? 3 hours each way for a one hour interview? Hope you can find a really great place to eat lunch!

Hi to JJ and Vicci! Hope your weeks are going well!

Kathy B

Question for those who have run a half before....should I join a pace group? There is a group for every 5 minute increment from 1.5 hours to 2.5 hours. I have toyed with the idea of joining the 2.5 hour group as they state they will start very conservatively, walk through aid stations, set a steady pace mid race with adjustments for uphill and downhill. It all sounds good, but I am not sure if it is a realistic goal for me for the first race....but it might be OK. Might actually be helpful to keep me from starting out too fast, etc...since I haven't ever had to pace myself for such a long run in a race situation with adrenaline flowing and all that. But it might be too much....I'm just not sure. What do you think?

VictoriaL
04-06-2010, 07:08 PM
Jennifer, sounds like your bout with the shin splints is over-- yay! If you did a 10-miler last weekend, you should be all set for a 10k this weekend. What is your training for this week looking like?

Tkay, have a great ski-vacation! :D And congrats on picking up a new client, too.

KathyB, I hope that the weather is gorgeous for your run on Saturday! I am not a morning person, so that's probably another reason why I am reluctant to join in a "real" race since all of the ones I have ever been interested in are at least 45 minutes away. Will you be able to sleep well the night before?

Robyn, a cold-tap-water bath sounds just as, chilling, as an ice bath to me! But I'm glad that it worked (after you actually went ahead and did it!).

Les, I hope that you had a relaxing day today, got some stuff done, perhaps a run or bike ride in, since your past week was so very hectic. I ditto everyone else on the 3 hour each way trip for a one hour interview-- yeesh. But if anyone can do it...

Nat, are you enjoying your day off?? The peanutty noodles sound great-- I have to put them on the menu for this week because we haven't had them in ages. Thanks for the reminder.

Susan, great news about the running skirt-- have you bought another yet (I always get duplicates of favorite items, just in case...)?

One month ago we had 27" of snow on the ground. For the past few days it has been in the 80's and, while I am not complaining, it is a tad warm. I went out for a prune-and-run today ;). We haven't had the time to clean off the trails from the winter storms, and I am tired of having to crawl through areas (seriously...), so I took along a pair of pruning shears and multi-tasked a bit.

Forty-five minutes in the beautiful outdoors, then several hours packing at my MIL's apartment. There's still a lot of packing to do for the next two days before the movers come on Friday, and we will then spend the weekend getting her apartment set up before she arrives Monday afternoon. I'm tired already.

Weights scheduled tomorrow, then a trip to WalMart for some things for the new apartment, then more packing. I probably won't be checking in until the next thread, so I hope that you all have a great week.

Run (and bike, and TM, and....) STRONG! :D

Natasha

Vicci,

Thanks for checking in. Hope all goes well. I know this is a hectic and stressful time for you, DH, and of course MIL.

Kathy,

I've never deliberately run with a pace group at a race but know lots of people really swear by them. (I say deliberately because I have ended up running informally with a bunch of folks around a pace bunny, just because we happened to be going the same pace at the time. :) At my first marathon, I ended up with a pace group for a few km and then dropped back, because they were a tad too fast for me. It was fine, though - I was none the worse for wear for having run at that pace with them.) Not sure if any of this makes sense?!

It might be an idea to start out with the 2:30 group to (as you say) keep you from starting out too fast. If it turns out you need to slow down, you can always let yourself do that. Be honest about how you feel and adjust accordingly :) And who knows ... you might leave them all behind in the dust! :D

SusanMac

Kathy - I have used pace groups before and like them a lot. I've never actually stayed with one throughout an entire race (either pulled ahead or dropped back). I don't like to 'sign up' and be official (too big of a commitment, I guess :-). And I won't wear one of those bibs on my back that has my target time! But, they are very good for ensuring you don't start out too fast. And, they give you an automatic group of people to talk to, if you're in the mood for that.

Vicci - I love your prune & run! Double the productivity!

Robyn - I meant to ask about timing for your ice baths. How soon after a workout do you really have to do those? Right away? Or if you're not able to get to it for a few hours, is it still beneficial?

Just returned from a 60-min yoga class. Ever since I started cycling, I can feel huge tightness in my hamstrings! Oi. These classes are good for me. Now I need to start doing some of the hamstring moves on my own at home.

Kathy B - I've run with pace groups and led pace groups - if you can find one that going at the pace you've decided you want to run/that you predict out for then I'd join one. One thing you can do to "arm" yourself is to make your own pace band to keep track of your pace (ahead/behind pace). The one I use when I do run/walk intervals comes from the following link: http://www.ottawarun.com/pacetag.htm the site is pretty self-explanatory and if you aren't taking walk breaks then you can just enter 0 for the duration of your break. One thing you may find out is if the pacer isn't experienced as a pacer they may go out too fast and burn out before the end (one marathon where I led an unofficial 3:20 marathon pace the 3:40 pacer passed me in the first 4 miles then I passed him at 13 miles -- ultimately finished in 3:19.40).
Vicci - I hear you about the heat but I'm with you - not complaining about the heat. My only issue right now is the AC is on - it was 85 in the house yesterday. :( Not a good sign for the home team, I didn't start the AC until almost May last year. Good job on your prune-and-run.
TKay - Have a good vacation and you're too funny.
Susan - I have a sense that I'll need to start yoga or at least real stretching in the near future. Part of getting older.

I didn't get out yesterday, I had a bunch of stuff to take care of for class today (I got a chapter electronically yesterday that I needed to have read by today). So I took the day off. After moving boxes of stuff in the basement in preparation for the exterminator tomorrow (we've got swarming termites and ants) I rode for over an hour. Felt good and invigorating.

I'm not too concerned about the trip tomorrow. One of the other people who is being interviewed tomorrow (first thing) is coming down from New York. I assume she's already in Williamsburg because she's first out of the box tomorrow and has to fly back for class (although I'm missing class tomorrow for the interview).

Wrapping up a little tonight -- check you tomorrow with results of the interview.

Happy trails,
Les

Robyn - I meant to ask about timing for your ice baths. How soon after a workout do you really have to do those? Right away? Or if you're not able to get to it for a few hours, is it still beneficial?

I was under the impression that it needed to be done pretty quickly but my coach said even hours later that it was better than nothing. I'm a little desperate for anything right now as I'm feeling very beaten up. Actually I should clarify that. Nothing hurts really, just general soreness and both physical and mental exhaustion.

I'm sorry everyone, I just don't have much in me right now as it's been a challenging week at work with busy evenings (although busy in VERY good ways). I had a sprint workout tonight with warm up, 2x 1/4 mile sprints, 1x 1/2 mile sprint and 2x 1/4 mile sprints then a cool down.

Sending everyone good thoughts. Will catch up more this weekend as I'm booked up again tomorrow night and hoping to squeeze in 2 slow recovery miles after work.

Hi all,

Just checking in quickly. I've only made it out 2x this week-2 miles on Sunday and then 6 on Tuesday. I did do weights at the gym on Monday too. I was going to go back today, but a bad day at work coupled with a rapid temperature drop made me come straight home after work. I know, it should have been the perfect day to go take out some stress on the weights!
Shins are still fine, just a tiny bit of tenderness, and some mild tendonitis behind one knee (something I had for the entirety of my last season of basketball my soph year of college, years ago. I can live with it. I think). It's always something.
I hope to get a light run in one of the next three days before the 10K on Sunday.

Leslie, safe travels tomorrow and best of luck.

Vicci, I agree that the 80s are quite warm. It was mid 80s on my run yesterday, and the times there weren't any wind were almost unbearable. I'm a wuss. I can handle cold better than hot. I hope we have a spring before summer hits full force! It certainly sounds like you have so much going on--I'm impressed that you are keeping up with the workouts!

Kathy, good luck this weekend! I'll be looking for you post-race update. I can't believe mine is two weeks from this weekend.

Tkay, hope you are having a great time on your get away.

Hi Robyn, Natasha, and Susan!

Well I told Natasha and Susan I'd check in. :)

It makes me smile that despite not having been on the boards for a while, that this group is still the same. I can't even keep up with who all is doing what but you all seem happy and VERY energetic. Have to say I've become one of those FB addicts since the end of the year (and yes Virginia I DO end up playing Farmville - with apologies to everyone who thinks it is a complete time waste, but it sucked me in )

So, I'll try to stop by more often, follow all your exploits, and maybe I'll even get back into more a regular routine in terms of running/yoga. And if anyone knows anything about Montreal/Quebec, check out my thread request on the Other Stuff board.

Happy running!!

Hi Mary! Nice to see you here and to hear how things are going. Please stop by even if you're not running.

Hey, I don't think we've had any "You know you're a runner when..." sentences here for a while. I'm pretty sure you started the trend, and had some especially funny ones, IIRC :D

Got in a good spin and some weights last night. Tonight... jury is still out. We'll see!

Sounds like a fun racing weekend ahead for folks (Jennifer and Kathy). Very exciting. Jennifer, glad you only have a bit of tenderness. College basketball - wow. I'm always impressed by people who play college sports :)

Kathy, have you decided what to do about the pace bunny thing? (Not to put more stress on you - just asking :)).

Les, hope your trip goes well.

Hi to everyone else, and happy running/riding/moving stuff, etc.

Trip went well - the interview ended up being successful; not my best interview ever but I was "passed" for ordination in June. I consider the whole process a run.

Guess what... it's pouring outside.

Happy trails,
Les

Les

This made me laugh :D

Glad it went well. We've had wet weather here as well this week, but tonight it cleared up and we got in some good walks. Didn't end up doing any real training but such is life. Now to curl up on the couch. A good documentary series is wrapping up tonight and I'm looking forward to it :)

Take care, runfolk!

It's just crazy, isn't it? We have had hail the past two days, but today was beautiful. Supposed to have mild temps and sunshine right through the weekend now. YEA! I'll bet you are relieved to have the interview process over with. Glad it went well!

As far as the pacer goes, I have decided not to decide....:p.... until I get started. Thanks Susan, Les and Natasha for the input. It is good to know that some people just use the pacers for a while...that sounds perfect. I was leery of starting off with them and having to drop out, but it sounds like it is not uncommon for people to drop out or go on ahead. I think I will try starting out with them and just play it by ear.

It has always been hard for me mentally to run with someone else, because I am not necessarily setting the pace and I always start thinking it is too fast and feeling out of breath. Even when the pace is not that different from what I normally run. :o Hopefully it will be different with a group in a race situation. We'll see....

Did an easy 2.5 today. Tomorrow I will walk on the TM for about 20 minutes and go to bed early.

Natasha, what documentary are you watching?

Hi, Mary! Good to hear from you!

JJ, glad the shins are doing well! Hope you got your easy run in.

Robyn, my dictionary does not have a definition for 1/2 mile sprint!! What on earth is that?? :D (You go, girl!)

Susan, I am anxious to get back to yoga. That and weights have been on hold for a while. Hopefully I can start up again next week.

Vicci, I don't blame you for feeling tired thinking about all of the packing and moving. It will feel great to have it done, though, and it will also be nice to know that your MIL is in a good place and you don't have to worry about her.

I'm on call to teach a class tomorrow (if any of the instructors don't show up, I will go fill in), so my day is kind of up in the air for now. See you all on the new thread! :)

Just in case I don't get a chance later:

Good luck Kathy!!!!
