Board members have requested, repeatedly and long ago, to set the board rules so that new members can't post links or pictures until they've reached a critical number of posts (number suggested varies).

Still, today, after all this time, nothing's changed. I just reported one spammer / two posts who included tons of links and several pictures in each post. If we had these rules in place they wouldn't have posted at all.

Yet, the requirement of, what, at least 10 characters for any post is more of a burden to members than it is an effective method to prevent spam. Many is the time a one-word response on a thread would have been perfect -- perhaps even hilarious :D -- yet we are not allowed. We have to fill up our post with fluff text just to make it go through. On another vBulletin board I frequent, there is no such restriction and it's very handy. In the examples above, when I reported the spam I clicked reply on each thread and typed "reported" to alert other members. But noooooooo, that's too short, so I have to add text to make the post go through. A pain, and not helpful in combating spam.

The Kraft cream cheese one that was posted this afternoon, that person was recently on another board that I am a member of posting the same kind of thing.

funniegrrl, I know what you mean. I like to use a lot of smilies when I post, and the other day my post would not go through because I had one too many smilies. But a spammer can come along like the other day and post cra* on ALL of the forums.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for bringing the minimum characters per post issue to my attention. It should now be changed to only requiring one character per post. Please let me know if you're still having any problems with this!

I found out from our technical support that the minimum posting requirements for new users will (unfortunately) not be taking effect. I was told that they're instead working on updating the boards which will help out the spam issue.

Moving forward, I'm still going to keep the 20 post rule in effect and continue to manually delete posts with links and images if the new user hasn't contributed 20 posts yet until we get the updated boards. I've really appreciated everyone's support and help by reporting spam and I ask you to please continue to do so. I'll do my best to address and delete the posts as soon as I can.

Thanks so much!
Mallory
