Michelle, I got all excited when I saw your name listed as the most recent poster. Doesn't Evelyn need a sibling about now?

I'm still coasting along at 23 1/2 weeks. I lost the baby last year at 25 weeks 2 days, so that is looming in the future but there is no reason to think there will be any problems this time around.
I'm at my parents' house in Michigan right now to help my mom and clean up my accumulation of stuff because the house is on the market. I'm also having a small shower over the weekend, thrown my MIL and SIL. I am horrible about peeking at the registries and I was thrilled to see that someone purchased the ridiculous swing that I had to have - it's the Fisher-Price Zen Collection swing, and I love it because it doesn't look baby-ish as a piece of furniture that's likely to take up residence in my family room for six months, and it also plugs in instead of taking batteries. Anyone else want to admit to a ridiculous must-have on the registry?
Where are you all registering besides the ever-popular babies r us? I boycott babies r us, so I'm registered at Target and Amazon.

Hi ladies, checking in at 15 weeks. My EDD is October 26. I am starting to feel a bit better and not nearly as tired. So, that is good.

We just learned we are moving from DC to Dallas later this year so that is consuming me at the moment. I am hoping to push the move until after the baby is born.

I have my 2nd bloodtest to finish off the nuchal screening next week. That's about it here. My little Maddie turns 2 this weekend...where does time go?

Candace--I am sure that this hurdle is big for you and I hope the coming weeks bring you additional assurance and comfort. Glad to hear all is going well!

Veschke--Cannot wait to hear if it is a boy or girl. I will schedule my u/s at my OB appt next week I suppose. Cannot wait to know.

Everyone else, hope you are doing well! Off to take a walk with my new found energy!

Hi all. Wow, we are a short list! We need some other pregnant friends. :)
All is well here. I think I am 25 weeks. I find it hard to keep good track here with baby #3.
I don't think I have posted this here but I am a little paranoid about the fact that when John-Paul was born (he will be 3 in Aug) he had shoulder dystocia (shoulder got stuck on the way out) and apparently that fact along with the fact that I have big babies puts me at high risk of it happening again. (Anyone here have experience with this issue?) When it happened with him they were able to get him un-stuck pretty fast, but apparently it can have much worse outcomes. My doctor is recommending an u/s at the end of the pregnancy, with the possibility of a c-section if the baby is huge. (I know a c-section is not the end of the world, but I just never pictured myself having one, and I also wouldn't look forward to the recovery, with 3 kids to care for!) So anyway, other than worrying about that, I am fine.
Hope all is well with everyone else.

Hi Terry, How scary delivery must have been when he was stuck. how big was he??

TLee4
05-05-2010, 06:22 PM
He was 9 lbs 10.6 oz.
I think it was scarier for my mom and my husband than it was for me. A bunch of doctors ran in and someone kind of sat on my stomach (!) but I was in some sort of denial. I didn't think much of it until my doctor brought it up this time around.
I WAS concerned b/c they thought his shoulder might be broken, and his arm was all bruised up. But once I knew he was fine I kind of forgot about it!!

TLee--My BFF is pregnant with #2 and had the same problem with the shoulder with her first (she wasn't a big baby--but my friend is tiny). Her DR has also recommended a scheduled C for #2 as like you said the odds are higher when it has happened before. I am not sure what she has decided to do but thought I would pass that along. Wow, I thought my 8 LB baby was big.....you've got some genes! Hang in there as you decide what to do.

Susan,
Thanks for your reply but that wasn't what I wanted to hear! ;)
My first was 8 lbs 13 oz.
Ugh..well I'll just have to see how it plays out.

I'm posting anonymously out of paranoia, although I seriously doubt that my employer is lurking on the cookinglight boards!

I have a job interview in a couple of weeks and I am significantly pregnant. I need to find something appropriately "corporate" to wear although it doesn't necessarily have to be a suit. I'm looking online and everything is very expensive. Also I hesitate to buy online because who knows what it will look like on me. I popped into the Motherhood store with no luck. Has anyone been to any real-life maternity stores or sections where you found "career-wear"?
Thanks!
p.s. I'm not trying to hide my pregnancy..they do know about it, but I also don't want to scream "pregnant"!!!

Preggie....with my first child (2 years old this weekend) I wore suits to work nearly every day. I worked up until my due date and never once bought a suit jacket. I went to mimi maternity (I think I went to the actual store and the one in Macys) and bought a bunch of black maternity pants....with the stretch waist in back....not the big belly panel--they went over my belly until I was too big and then scrunched under. Then, I bought black and white tank tops/camis from the same maternity places (and target maternity dept) and wore them under my regular suit jackets....and I'd just button the top button of the jacket. I tended to primarily wear black jackets so they blended with the pants and really didn't make me feel like I looked overly maternity at work. Hope this helps.

Is there any place in our area that sells maternity clothes on consignment? I found awesome buys on barely used (and often brand new) maternity clothes, including career wear.

05-06-2010, 06:54 PM
Thanks ladies. I am not aware of any maternity consignment shops close by. But I think I did piece together a couple of things from my closet that will do the trick...a black skirt, black maternity jacket which is actually too SMALL  but I will wear it open and a blouse. So hopefully that will do the trick. I really do not feel like spending a fortune when I likely won't even GET the job.

Ok, I can return to my real identity now. :D

I'm crossing my fingers and joining in here. From what I can figure I'm about 7 weeks and due 12/31/10. It's still early and I haven't seen the doctor yet, but I needed to tell someone! This is a very happy surprise since I know men more likely to get pregnant that I am.

It's good to see so many people from my first time around here. I hope everyone is feeling okay.

Candace -- I'm glad your appointment went well. How often do they have you going?

32 weeks and feeling good most of the time. Every once in awhile I get a round of BH contractions but they seem to pass.

Question... have any of you guys been exposed to Roseola while pregnant. My daughter most likely has it and her Pediatrician said not to worry but just hoping to hear from others that have been and been fine....

Welcome, 2HUNGRY!

18 weeks, had my ultrasound today, it looks like we're having a girl--JJ will remain the family fluke. :) They found something that raised our Downs odds to 1/5000 and I am not sure if I am freaked out or just annoyed by the way this entire "odds" thing works -- it's information, but it seems to be kind of useless in terms of making decisions.

Of course, I don't really like their radiologist, which may be coloring things. He'll give all of this statistical information, then ask me if I have questions in a way that makes me think I must be an idiot for not having any, but... if he could tell me anything else right now, he would have, right? So what am I supposed to ask?

Anyway, another hurdle down.

It's already mid-May, and I don't think I've checked in. Life is just zooming here - we're having serious stomach issues with our son and I've been so consumed with a sick cranky little guy that I haven't had a chance to think about the pregnancy!

But, we had our ultrasound this morning and it's a girl! I'm stunned. I was hoping for a girl, but "braced" for a boy. Boys run in both our families, and while I knew a little brother would be great for our son, I was still hoping I would have a girl. So we're thrilled, and excited about that.

Otherwise things are moving along nicely. Baby looked to be 20 weeks today at the ultrasound (my calendar day is Saturday so showing 2 days ahead - no big deal). I'm feeling well (although tired, but I know that's the norm). Now i understand why "repeater" moms never have as much to say! :)

Congrats on the girl helios!

I had an ultrasound also yesterday to measure growth.

I am 32 weeks pregnant. My daughter was 6 pounds 2 lbs 2 ounces and this time around I am huge in my eyes.. 3 comments from strangers asking me if I am ready to deliver today!! (btw the perinatoligist says the baby weigh 4.5 pounds already)

Bridget,
I feel your pain. I dread this point in the pregnancies when people ask you when you are due. When I say Aug I see their eyes pop out like they thought I was about to give birth any second. Ugh.

Jill, I just noticed that you joined us. Congratulations! I guess you, Susan, and I were meant to be on a pg thread together - just two years later than originally planned...

Heather - glad you're getting your wishes for a little girl, and I hope Quinn is feeling better soon.

veschke - 1 in 5000 is not a big red flag in my book. If you are concerned, you should ask for an appt with a genetics counselor who will give you lots of info without making you feel like a doofus (at least in my experience).

to those of you who have people saying that you look big - my issue is people not realizing that I'm pregnant. It seems pretty obvious to me but I was overweight to begin with, so maybe they just think I've gained a ton of weight or something? I know it depends on what I wear too.
I'm measuring exactly on target, so I know it's nothing to be concerned about.

afm - the shower over the weekend was really nice and this whole thing is becoming real as I now have a closet full of baby stuff in my office (which will become the nursery). I had a regular OB appt today and everything is fine but I don't really think the regular OB counts for much - I put much more weight on what the high risk guy says. I'm seeing him next week for a bunch of tests.
I had my teeth cleaned yesterday, and the little guy pitched a fit during the ultrasonic part. It was like a tornado in my belly! It was the first time I've felt a direct response from the baby to something going on outside, so that was kind of neat.

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing...

I am 33 weeks and a few days. Really feeling pregnant, especially at night.

veschke

Hanging in here. I think I'm over my freakout -- you're quite right, 1/5000 is pretty dang low, and a single "soft" marker is nothing to get concerned about (a calcium spot on her heart, which occurs in something like 6% of the non-Downs population as well).

I finally got around to ordering some maternity clothes in the past week or so--I forgot how difficult it is to find pants when you're as short as I am! All anyone is stocking in my size are white -- is the Moby Dick look really "in" this summer? Anyway, I am definitely looking pregnant at 19 weeks.

I have also come down with a killer cold, so this has been a rotten week -- not much sleep for a couple of days when the 2yo first had it, and hardly any last night when it hit me. Had some awful dreams when I finally did get to sleep. Seems like every pregnancy I have a few of those.

Going out tomorrow to look at apartments, and cold or no cold, I have to finish something for work today. *sigh* Hope everyone is doing well.

Veschke -- both my neice and nephew had calcium spots on their hearts and they are both fine. I know it's scary at first -- when I had my son they told me he had a 1 in 86 chance of having downs and I freaked out, but really it was still less than a 2% chance. Sorry to hear about all of the white pants. Do you have to dress up for work? I hope you feel better soon.

Candace -- People always told me I didn't look pregnant until about 32 weeks when they started to tell me to get my bags packed because I looked like I would deliver any day. Ugh. Good luck with the high risk guy. Do you get non-stress tests?

I went to the doctor last week and I'm officially pregnant with a due date of 1/1/11! I feel a lot more sick this time around and about 2 x as big.

Hello Mommies to be! I typed up a post last week but my IE decided to close at the end and I've never had a chance to re-do. :( So here's to a post before the end of the month...

I'm 29 weeks tomorrow and feeling great. This is absolutely flying by and I'm beginning to panic. I don't have all of our boxes unpacked from the move, no nursery designated, nothing. ACK!!!!!!! I have my next appt tomorrow afternoon and I'm super anxious - I've been measuring a tad small at the last 2 and I'm hoping the trend has ended. I ended up on bedrest with Natalie at 34 weeks and I'm praying I don't have to repeat it. We had a 3D u/s 2 weeks ago and all looks well, but they didn't take any growth measurements so it continues to weigh on my mind. Funny enough, no one still has a problem telling me how huge I look. And I feel huge!

2HUNGRY - Welcome and congrats!!! What a fun due date - wouldn't that be something if baby was born on that day?!

bbpizzapro - You're next in line!! How is your back these days?

veschke - I hope your 'freak out' has subsided but I would be lying if I said I wouldn't have been initially concerned either. Do you have another u/s coming up to see how baby is? I'm sure all will be well! And I can second you on those dreams - they seem to occur almost everynight these days. UGH!

Candace - yay for a nice shower!! I sure wish I could have one this round but it 'might' seem like I'm fishing for gifts. ;) Have you had your appt with the high risk guy?

Teri - OMG you have big babies!!!! Does your dr. just plan on monitoring size and than potentially inducing or did s/he just say c-section? Other than that, glad to hear things are going well. :)

Heather - Congrats on the girl! One of each will be great - and I'm happy you got your wish. ;)

Hello to everyone else!! Hope to check in at least one more time this month!

Here's my little princess 2 weeks ago (27 wks) and she appears to look JUST like Natalie! :)

those are amazing pics, Nancy! wow.

ha ha, I am approaching 31 weeks and we are moving in 2 weeks. so I would love to be in your shoes (in the new house with a few unpacked boxes around)!

speaking of big babies, mine were all big too (8 lb 14 oz, 9 lb 3 oz, and 9 lb 10 oz) and I am noticeably bigger this time around so I am wondering if we will crack the 10 pound mark this time. I actually don't expect that.... I am just sticking WAY WAY out... I carry all in front. everyone (strangers) thinks I am about to have my baby at any minute and are a little confused when I tell them I have over 2 months. I just hope that I am not measuring too big because I don't want any talk of induction or of extra monitoring near the end. (expensive non stress tests and ultrasounds.... I have to pay for all that stuff) I will see what they say tomorrow at my dr appt (re: my current size).

veschke
05-25-2010, 06:29 PM
20 weeks! Halfway there! Little one is very wriggly already.

2Hungry - no, I can wear jeans and t-shirts, which is nice, but it's weirdly difficult to find jeans this year. That is a great due date. :) I felt more sick this time than I did with either of my first two, and the "pop" definitely happened sooner.

fancyn - since I'm over 35 they do another ultrasound at 32 weeks (didn't get that one last time). Hopefully everything looks okay then. I am just a worrywart. I hope you don't end up on bed rest.

val - does that mean more space?? I remember you guys being a little squashed.

We are also moving this summer. Between apartment-hunting and trying to get all of my work done on the baby's deadline rather than the software's, and a few other miscellaneous things, I am a ball of stress this week. Next week we are going to visit my family, which I hope goes well. Staying with my mother is a literal headache for me, since she smokes, and by the time we leave everything we brought with us reeks. But it's been a long time since we saw the bunch of them.

Must get some sleep tonight. Go away headache....

Teri - OMG you have big babies!!!! Does your dr. just plan on monitoring size and than potentially inducing or did s/he just say c-section?

Those are some very cool pictures!!
Apparently inducing does NOT reduce the risk of shoulder dystocia, so you either roll the dice on the vaginal birth or go the c-section route. I'm still planning on avoiding the C but we'll see...
At my last m.d. appt the guy (a different doctor) was looking at my history of big babies and he said something like "we're not going to let that happen this time" and I asked "well, how will we avoid it?!" and he pauses and says "pray".

Hope everyone is hanging in there. We too may be moving sometime soon...no fun!

Hi all,

Just had my regular ob visit and all is ggod, measuring right on target but only gained one pound the last two weeks. So far 28 pounds. I thought I was doing good but my ob asked me if I was eating....

Well yeah I am, that would explain the 28 pounds!!

Nancy - the 3D u/s is so cool. I hope that things go OK today. Sending good thoughts your way.

Bridget - glad everything continues to go smoothly. My weight loss has slowed down quite a bit and I think I actually lost weight in the last week or so while I was sick, but in my case it is a good thing because I was overweight to begin with.

Val -good luck with the move! we'll have to get together sometime this summer before the babies arrive.

Terri - I had to laugh at the OB's response. Guess we don't have much control over these things.

2hungry - I love the due date. I'm sure the commentary about it is going to get annoying at some point though, especially as a hormonal pregnant woman:p

afm - I see the high risk OB as part of my regular care, so it wasn't a big deal - I go every 3 weeks now, and also see the OB every 3 weeks. Last week, they did the first FFN test, which was a very miserable one minute, but the test was negative so all is good. They try to predict whether you are likely to go into labor within 2 weeks by intentionally irritating the cervix and then seeing if it reacts. I'll have to have it 2 more times, at 29 and 32 weeks and then they're done being worried about my cervix. Everything else at the appt was OK.
We started transforming my office into the nursery last week. All of the furniture is now out, and the room is empty except for the changing table that I was gifted as a hand-me-down (from a clbb friend). We need to go to Ikea and do some crib shopping sometime soon and the next challenge is to figure out how to clean the Peter Rabbit cross-stitch wall hangings that DH's grandfather made.

Sorry to have fallen off the face of the earth...promise to try to stay up to date and post proper personals....just feeling a bit overwhelmed here as we are moving cross country later this year and between trying to find a new house, sell ours, run a business, find a new preschool, and chase a 2 year old...I feel life is passing me by!

But, we just had an awesome week off in FL which was just what the DR ordered! I am 19 weeks now and had my level II yesterday. All looks good and we are having a boy....so we'll have one of each. I am excited...although a little scared too.

I am still not up to my pre-preg weight but I feel 1,000,000 times better and my m/s is pretty much a thing of the past, thank goodness!
