An FYI for those of you who feed your pets the Innova line which includes California Natural. I feed my dog the CA natural and when I went to buy it at my local store they said they would not be be carrying it anymore because of the sale, they feel the quality and base ingredients will be greatly compromised.

What do you think you might use now? I'm wondering what others are feeding their dogs???
The only food Indy would consistently eat was Purina Pro Plan Selects- I tried all the other organic, better type foods but he wouldn't eat any of them more than the one bag. My new greyhound is on Purina Pro Plan- thats what all the foster dogs are fed that come through my GPA group. I bought a huge bag- cheaper that way but also to give my dog time to adjust to his home before I started messing around with his food. I did buy a very small bag of the Purina Pro Plan Selects that I was going to start to wean him on towards the end of the big bag but this thread got me to wondering if there isn't something else "better" that I would rather be using...

Thanks for posting. I use California Natural, too, and I'd hate to see the product change. Abbey had terrible allergies until we switched to CN. I really don't want to go back to the days of constant scratching and hot spots. :(

check out www.dogfoodanalysis.com, its a great comparison tool. I fed Wylie for years Pro-plan because that was the only thing she would eat, but switched her last year to the Natural. I am ging to try Fromms, BLue Buffalo is a good one that is readily available.
Jake my other dog is allergic to chicken and flax seed, Its so hard trying to find him a food to eat that does not have this, so he was on raw/cooked beef diet for years and did so well, but now he is having kidney problems because of his age I had to switch him to kibble and again finding something for him to eat has been impossible. I really wish there was a better selection of limited ingredient foods.

I've bought every organic and "better" food for the cats and they only eat pro-plan.
I wonder if it is something they remember when they were babies and now feel safe eating it.
The only other thing they eat is Purina (the big blue bag).

We had a terrible time with our dog scratching and licking. He was just miserable and I didn't want him on meds. About three years ago I started him AvoDerm and after about one month the problem never returned. I'm a believer! I think it might be all natural. I buy it at a small farmer place by my house and did see it at Petsmart, but it's more expensive.

We use NutriSource for Gus.
It's a shame about Innova....I have used Wellness and Halo Spot's Stew for my cats (NO grains-no soy or corn, etc) and they all have done just so well. No more itching and no litter box smell...much easier on their digestive tracts.

i'm noticing how many of us are saying that our pets only eat pro plan. i even was making indy home cooked dinners but he still seemed to like the pro plan- i wonder what they feed greyhounds at the track?? anyway-
marymac- i used to mix in some canned vegetarian avoderm in indy's dry food and he loved it. i might try the dry for skipper.
thanks kristi- i tried him on blue buffalo but it did something to his number 2's- not remembering but thinking he made a huge amount?? i think i might try it again.
skipper lost his tags yesterday so i need to go get him a new one this afternoon and will pick up some blue buffalo and avoderm.

We have been feeding Canidae ALS: http://www.canidae.com/dogs/grain-free-als/dry.html
I think it gets 5 stars on the dogfoodanalysis.com site. I can buy it at a mom n pop doggie/pet supply store. Our breeder was feeding that so we are continuing with it.

To me, this seems shortsighted for the store to give up the product, and potentially customers who will drive elsewhere, for a situation that may not develop. Sorta convicting without a trial.
Is P&G that mercenary that they would compromise quality of a product that pet owners are obviously willing to pay a premium price for?
Just a thought.
The cats (and raccoons) eat Purina blue bag and the dogs (and birds) eat Purina green bag. Since we also seem to feed most of the wildlife in the neighborhood - I don't buy the premium food. All food bowls are outside.

My goldens get Science Diet light, and the mixed up little guy just started on Purina One that has both soft and hard food mixed. He's very picky! When our friend graduates from Vet school, we'll start having to pay full price for the Science Diet!

I tried avoderm and nutrisource- this dogs nickname is scooby because he is always ready to eat and is always snarfing for treats. He liked both but then i found this site
http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/
and a new dog food store opened that is way more convenient than the other one i was going to and they carry origen which is highly rated, skipper loves it and i hope it helps his sensitive skin. I just started to wean him on it last night.

Cheryl,
We've been feeding our dog origen for maybe 18 months-2 years now. We are really happy with it so far. Plus it's from Alberta so I'm supporting my national economy ;)
Hope Skipper keeps liking it and that it helps his skin!

I stopped using Canidae when they changed their formulation; people on the labradoodle forum were having problems with it. We tried a lot of other foods and finally settle on Taste of the Wild, which we were surprised to find carried by our local Tractor Supply. She loves it and does well on it. She still chews her paws sometimes but I'm thinking it may just be a habit by now.
Our daughter's bulldog developed idiopathic head tremors. She was feeding her Canidae. I suggested that she try TOTW instead. The tremors went away. Could have been coincidence, but still...

That's frustrating when companies sell like that.
Our dog eats Fromm Four Star (http://www.frommfamily.com/). When we first got him we fed him Wellness and fed him that for several months. He did OK on it, but we had to give him yogurt to supplement because he sometimes would have loose stools. We switched him to Fromm after a few months and it's perfect for him. We also tried Pure Vita from Nutrisource, Innova and Orijen. The Orijen made him really sick--apparently he can't tolerate grain free food. The others he didn't do well on, either, so we are sticking to Fromm. Sensitive doggy. :)
I second reading the dog food rating sites--they are very helpful!

Funny how some of our dogs cant handle the high quality food. When I switching my lab from raw to dry I tried taste of the wild and it gave him very loose stools, I have both on Fromm and they are doing quite well.

He seems to be doing fine- I think the fatique was from being boarded. He seems way better with his sensitive skin!! He still getting a bit of his old food mixed in- I'll keep doing that til its gone. He loves the fish flavor- still licks his chops when I'm scooping it up. Thanks for asking :)
