Spectacular! That must have taken a lot of time.
Not at all what I was picturing -- better. The quilted icing is especially nice and I like the way you tied everything together and made the top cake special. Hope it was a great wedding.

Thanks everyone. It was great fun doing the cakes and making the flowers, butterflies and leaves. I think the lace wrappers added a lot to the whole tree.
Jill,
The tier was a butter cake recipe and the cupcakes were (7 dozen each) vanilla, carrot and red velvet. All iced the same so it was a bit of a surprise when you peeled off the wrapper. Later in the evening some of the guests went back to see if they could find the carrot cake! :p
The wedding itself was spectacular. There was a piper at the door of the church and the church (St. John's Kirk) is magnificent. We then went to the castle (Fingask) and had drinks and canapes in the courtyard, dinner in a huge pavilion (glass enclosed) which was three courses. Then about 8 they cut the cake and everyone else helped themselves to a cupcake. About 10 there was roast pork sandwiches served. The band played a variety of music and I learned the Gay Gordon which you twirl and stomp your way around the dance floor...loads of fun as they say here!
We stayed in a cottage (the old wash house converted to a 2 bedroom cottage) for 10 days and the place was wonderful...wild azaleas everywhere you looked. A running burn down the old well. Huge redwoods and tons of wild flowers, absolutely amazing!
We are back at our friends' house and leave on Monday...not looking forward to Texas temps!

Sounds like it was a great wedding! I LOVE your cupcakes. What a awesome idea.
Awesome....I thought the differing amounts of frosting on the cupcakes were to show which kind they were - guess not? Sounds like a great time for all.
Very lovely, and what wonderful friend you are to give of your time and talent.
