Who screens those banner ads??

First of all, let me start by commenting on how annoying those things are. (I believe there was a thread recently) Anyway, here I am checking out the BB when I see a banner for Pizza Hut proudly claiming "Win free pizza for a year!" I know most of us like to indulge in a little pizza now & then, but this is a Cooking LIGHT BB... and it's pretty safe to assume that very little of Pizza Hut's menu can be considered light. Oh, the irony!

I agree - and what genius at Pizza Hut thought CL would be a good place to put ads!

Yes, the ads are annoying but I have a bigger problem - ever since they started the boards have been soooo SLOW - am I the only one having this problem? It takes at least 10 times longer to load each page, it is so frustrating trying to navigate now. When I look at the little bar on the bottom of my browser that tells me what's going on it always says "Waiting for ads" or something so I know it is the ads slowing things up. I've tried several browsers and keep having the same problem. :mad:

Ha!!! And I thought it was some personal quirk I had! I complained rather loudly on the Great Food BB that I found them highly annoying, this was the last great sanction for no advertising! Too bad, must be the added cost of this great new BB. The CL ads don't seem to bother me nearly as much as those other guys!

At home, 'cause I live in a very techincal household, I don't see the banner ads. :D My darling BF installed some software on our web server at home, junkbuster I think it is called, that blocks out banner adds. We especially hate the ones that have javascript animation.

Weight Watchers and Pizza Hut, what an advertising combo. :rolleyes:

Coming from a sales and marketing background, I can totally understand why we have the Banner Ads. The advertising dollar is desperately needed! I just tune them out most of the time.
I have noticed that the board loads slower, but isn't that because there are now more 'links' to load with the ads?

As for the subject matter, I look at it as amusement...I've said this before. On my 'Childfree by Choice' message board on ivillage there is a banner ad for Baby Stuff. On the 'Eating Disorders' board at ivillage there is a constant banner ad for EDiets.com. Why shouldn't Pizza Hut be on the CL board! Just going with the flow, right?

I don't fault CL for making the advertising part of their board, because I know the boards are expensive to maintain, and anything helps. Still, wouldn't hurt to try to get the "Healthy Choice" account Maelynn!! :D
