I saw this today, and oddly, I didn't enjoy it too much. Usually I love Pixar movies. They're so well-done, with a gentle spirit. Toy Story 3 resembled the snarky cartoon movies that cater to adults. It was disappointing.

Did you like the first two?
Just curious because you mentioned liking Pixar movies in general, but didn't talk about the Toy Story movies in particular.........

I saw the first, but not the second one. I enjoyed it. It showed great character and storyline, unusual for "just a cartoon" at the time.
Toy Story 3 was okay. It had an intriguing premise -- what happens to toys when we outgrow them? But it didn't really follow through thoughtfully the way Pixar normally does.

I actually liked the second one more than the first - very, very rare for movie sequels.
No matter the reviews, I'll see the third one too, just because I liked the first two so much.
We caught bits of the first two on TV the other night and it was funny watching them with the boys now that they are older and can get the inside jokes in the second one with the Jurassic Park and Star Wars references. :)

By all means, go. All the reviewers seem to love this movie, but I wasn't crazy about it. It wasn't up to Pixar standards.

DH and I thought 3 was great. He liked it best, but I think it was at least comparable to #1, which I liked better than #2. My boys LOVED it :)

My DS is 5 and really wants to see this movie. He's not seen the first two (none of us have). He hasn't been to a movie at the theater before... would this be a good first movie?

There are some scary parts on it. I wouldn't recommend it as a first movie for a child.

I disagree. My youngest just turned 4 in April. This was his FIRST movie in a theater. We also don't watch a lot of TV or movies, so maybe his 5th movie EVER. He LOVED it. My oldest is 6, maybe has seen a couple more movies than DS2, all G or kiddo movies as well. He LOVED it as well.

I think it would be a great choice, parent to parent.
I am looking forward to seeing it with my kids. We loved the first two and rewatched them over the weekend. Don't tell his friends, but my 10 y.o. got out the old Woody and Buzz dolls and slept with them Saturday night. :p The only problem I have with TS3 is the 3D aspect. Really? Does every new movie have to be shown in 3D? Did you see it in 3D? I just hate that.
As for first-movie material, I think it depends on the child. My boys have been funny that way. There are certain movies they simply have refused to see because they looked too scary. Remember that movie, "Ants?" They didn't see that one for years. They also refuse to watch "Where the Wild Things Are" even though the book is one of our favorites. Of course, I have heard that one is very dark.

Surely you can see TS3 without 3D. The only movie we've seen in 3D is Avatar, and I don't care of I ever see another 3D movie again.
As for TS3, DH and I have been empty nesters for some time and we both want to see the new Toy Story. We loved the first two. We're just waiting for the crowds to ebb a little.

DS is fearless. DD, who is 7, is easily frightened. Maybe he should go and she should stay home!

We plan to see it tomorrow night. My DB lent me DVD's of both Toy Story 1 and Toy Story 2, and I loved them both. (Buzz Lightyear!!) I love everything Pixar has done (okay, I haven't seen the DVD for CARS yet.)
By the way, we checked, and our mall's theaters are playing both versions, 3-D and regualr. We're both opting for regular, and I, too, don't care if I never see a 3-D film again. I don't care for them, and I've read that the "returnable" 3-D glasses are super non-hygienic.

I just returned from seeing it, in 3D......I am now motion sick, ugh. No other choice at my theater.
However, as the world's largest Toy Story 1 and 2 fan---I did like it, but did not think it nearly as good as the first two. Should I also mention that neither of my children would see it with me?

My boys (soon to be 19 and 15) LOVED it and so did their friends. The younger watched the 3D version while the older one didn't. I can't wait to see it myself, but I will wait for the DVD most likely, unless one of my boys wants to go with me. I hear Mr. Potato Head is great as always. :D

We learned on Friday that my son is legally blind in his right eye (we had NO idea he had any issues!). Since he is only using 1 eye and has no depth perception, we figured the 3D would be a waste of money!
We took him (5yo) and his 4 year old twin cousins and we all enjoyed it. One of the twins was a little scared during part of it (I thought somewhat understandably) but just snuggled into my lap and was fine. My other brother's 4yo didn't go b/c she gets scared by just about everything (my bro said she got frightened by something in one of the first two:rolleyes:) and I think she would have been freaked out by it!
It wasn't my favorite of the 3, but I still really liked it alot. As with all of the Pixar films, I found a nice mix of humor and sentimentality---I laughed alot and teared up a little, a sign of a good film to me!

Mary, my DH had something similar discovered at 2 and has worn glasses ever since-- also had a surgery, but I'm sure that if they can do anything to help the vision in the other eye they can do a lot more now than years ago. He still sees with only one eye at a time though. His depth perception is more learned -- no 3D movies for him either. They drive him crazy.
We haven't seen the movie yet. DS and I were saying last night that we might see it while traveling if we find it at a theater. I't's probably okay for a 16 yr old to see a movie with his mom if they are 2000 miles from home. ;) :D

DH and I plan on seeing it ourselves, in any case.

We took our kids to see it and just loved it! Our son is 2 yrs old and LOVES Buzzlightyear, our 5 yrd old Daughter loves Jessie. Its a toss up really, I enjoyed both part 1 and 2, so part 3 was just icing on the cake, even though I think we all got so used to first two movies some where expecting maybe a similar story line. None the less, it was really a great movie, it was funny at times and then I seriously cried twice towards the end. I grew up with TS so it was great seeing my kids enjoy it at the movies as well. Our 5yr DD did get a little scared towards the end because it was very intense and loud, our DS did fine though. DD doesn't like 3D so we just saw it in the regular screen, plus I heard the 3D on TS3 wasn't that great either though.
The Pixar short film, Day & Night was also great. It was such a different feel though, so I guess that set the tone for TS3 as well. We might go see TS3 again soon!
