My mom took a small jar of curry in her suitcase and the lid opened and spilled the curry in her tennis shoe and all over everything. She was wondering how to get the smell out? (Must not have an issue with staining, tg) She's tried baking soda.
thanks!

With the clothes she can add vinegar to the wash cycle (about a cup per load). Suitcase may just have to take a time-out outside.;)

I would put an open container of ground coffee in the suitcase, then close up the suitcase and leave it for a few days.
Coffee can work wonders on odors; it's often recommended for eliminating bad smells from cars, for example.

Newspaper is also great for getting rid of odors. Just crumple it up and stuff the suitcase full of paper. If possible, or needed, wrap it in it as well. I would probably change out the paper every couple of days. This trick got rotten coffee smell out of a cooler for us. It was super stinky.
Open suitcase flat on floor in out of way place. Put a small stable container (like a pint cottage cheese container) half full of vinegar on bottom of suitcase, gently close lid and let sit for at least a day or two.
I usually take small ziplock bags to enclose any fragile food/liquid items I might buy but sometimes even that isn't enough to prevent spillage.
This used to be sop for well used sportsgear bags and if it worked for that smell it ought to be good for almost any strong anything.

Thanks for the vinegar tip- my mom said everything else was in zip bags but not the curry- not sure why but what a one to have spill! I'm surprised she's not worried about stains but it must have been contained in her tennis shoe.
