Hi!

I think I am in the market to get a 4 qt slow cooker - mostly since I just got the Make It Fast, Cook It Slow cookbooks and after reading a bit realized I don't fill my 6 qt enough which is why everything cooks so fast (hello) :p.

I just looked briefly and saw the Cuisinart 400 - what do you all have and like and why?

I want something programmable - preferably something I can set to start at a certain time, but I don't see this feature much, most of them seem to start cooking when you turn it on and just switch to warm once it's done cooking. I like the meat probe too.

Would love to hear what you all like!

Thanks!:D

I have had the Cuisinart 4 Qt model for about 3-4 years now; I like the compact size and find with just me & DH to cook for I use it much more often than the 6 Qt one. I don't think many models offer that delay start feature any more because there is concern about bacteria brewing while the food sits unrefrigerated waiting for the machine to turn on... and I'm not familiar with the meat probe model (I know I'm a lot of help :p) I just wanted to chime in and say I have nothing bad to say about the Cuisinart!

That's great to hear, thanks for writing. And you've had it for a few years so at least I know it has held up for at least that long! Good point about the delayed start - didn't really think about that, I'll probably end up going with the Cuisi then!

Thanks so much!:D

I am following this as we need a smaller slow cooker as well. I use a timer that you plug in to set the time for my slow cooker, it hasn't let us down yet and actually I use frozen meats when I use it.

There was a thread on this a month or so ago with lots of recs.

I have the w/sonoma all-clad (sometimes too big) and the original crock-pot...LOVE IT!
