View Full Version : Color Scheme Change

The color scheme change is very unpleasant. The grey text / white background / red trim is difficult to look at. And, combined with the fact that the page frame is still the "citrus" green/yellow/orange, quite odd overall.

I know from long experience on Internet BBs that people never like change -- I remember when the citrus theme first appeared -- but this particular change is really hard on the eyes. I'm pretty adaptable and I'm finding it hard to look at. Please revert, or find another scheme that's less jarring.

There are those who think this is an effort to kill the BB, BTW. Some immediate responsiveness would be appropriate here.

This is terrible. More appropriate for the Red Cross than a food forum. It's too annoying to look at.

Hi everyone -
We hear you! We released our new site-wide color change yesterday to better reflect the new look of the magazine.

In regards to the CLBB, the color change is still a work in progress. We want it to match the site, but also make it easy for all of you to navigate. I've just updated the font text from gray (I totally agree; it was very hard to read!) to black. I hope that helps.

I really appreciate all of you voicing your concerns and rest assured, we're working on it!

Best,
Mallory

The black text helps, but the all the stark white combined with the bright red is still a nightmare.

Glad the font is back but that very bold red that is still around is making my eyes twitch....really :(

Also down in the Forum Jump - the red bar is so bright I cannot read what is there.

Why do we have to match the magazine if it is not good for us?

OK, that is a little bit better than the red. Is that permanent or are they working on something else?

Unfortunately, the red and screaming headlines are what makes the magazine so hard to read.:( Thanks for changing the bars to gray -- I think my print is still gray, too, though (maybe not). Anyway, I appreciate your quick response and help.:)

Much better now....no eye twitching and no eye pain. With the dark grey bar I still can't see "where I am" on Forum Jump, however, once I hit the arrow I can navigate the menu easily. Much better.

The black text on white background is VERY difficult on the eyes.

Classic webdesign suggests that you should never have a stark white background - it's just too much.

ps - look at Chowhound.com for a similar color scheme, but MUCH, MUCH, MUCH easier to read.

The current color scheme is so bad that I think that you're going to lose a lot of users...

Actually, I like the new colors -- I find them kind of perky and cheery. (Yes, even the red-on-white and black-on-white, or maybe especially those combos, as long as there's some grey shading and other spot coloring as well.) The only serious problem I have is with the "Forum Jump" dropdown box at the bottom of each page; on my screen it's a solid blob, and I can't see the words unless I click on the box.

Cheers,
Phoebe

The "new look" is the main reason why I stopped subscribing to the magazine.

It is very difficult to tell if you have embedded a link into the text now. Can something be done to make the link more visible?

Thanks for the suggestion. We updated the links to be a dark blue color. Is anyone having trouble reading that color?

Thanks!

Mallory -

the red text of user name is very, very difficult to read, and hard on the eyes. If you're going to stick with the same color scheme, I would highly recommend a much darker red.

Please consider changing the white background - it's awful!

I just posted a link on this (http://community.cookinglight.com/showthread.php?t=138811) thread started by Tiekitty about the picture thread, and the link is a pale gray, not a dark blue.:(

Excellent question. Different media, different rules. That shade of red is atrocious.

The red is extremely irritating. I mentioned that on one of the other threads.

The white background is too hard on my eyes and I can only read the BB for very short periods of time--it makes my eyes blurry. Please consider changing the background color at the very least.

EXACTLY. Change it to a pale gray or something - it is really awful.

Garden Web is black and white and very easy on the eyes. It's the glaring red (and probably the light pink) that's the offender here.

The quote background is light tan and so is the heading, but the rest is still white. I have gone years without a headache, but today my eyes hurt and I feel headachey. Maybe it is a coincidence because I have been doing more reading lately than usual, but not today.

I'm using Google Chrome. The topics page is red, white and blue. When you get to the posts it is white background with grey, dark grey and red accents. Interesting! :p

I use IE and the background is still the glaring, awful, white. It hurts my eyes and starts to give me a headache.

The white background is so hard on the eyes and I really hope that this can be changed soon. I would be happy with any other muted color other than stark white.

SallyT

Please, please, PLEASE change the color scheme.

I cannot stand the royal blue on white background - it is so glaring and awful for my eyes.

I'm very surprised that the BB admins aren't more responsive, esp. considering that the vast majority of comments have been negative.

Please change!

I know this is old news and many of us are probably used to the colors by now but I just found a way that you can change the board's theme.

Scroll to the VERY bottom of the page...on the left hand lower side, beneath the trademarks/copyright info, there is a drop down menu that you can choose options on. There's not many but the older light green/orange one is there as "SEOvb SSL" and the standard forum blues option is "true default."

Just throwing it out there for anyone who might be interested!

Darn, the only way to get rid of the alert notice was to change back to what it was. Thanks anyway Reb.:(

I haven't gotten an alert. I changed it to the blue background and it is much nicer on my eyes
