Tracy,

Most areas (even urban) have Master Gardeners as part of a University Outreach and Extension program. You might try looking them up and they should be able to help you.

My grandfather volunteered with this program once and I remember him telling me the story of a woman coming in with this big weed that was growing all over her property and wanted to know what it was. And my grandfather (a minister, I'll add), told her she could be a rich woman as it was marijuana - he was kidding of course.

We just moved into a house with three HUGE apple trees. Looks like we'll be picking a few http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif! But, I have no idea what kind of apple tree it is! Any ideas on how to figure this out??

If you have contact with the previous owner call him or email him and ask them. If not maybe a neighboor knows or your local nursery. I just read a very interesting article on how people moving in a house with mature landscape can ask the previous owners for guidance identifying plants needs etc http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

You might want to try your local Agriculture Extension office. Here in Idaho, it is sponsored by the county where we live. I don't know what your state would have it under. Possibly, a state ag extension office? Anyway, we took in the fruit to have it identified by a local master gardener & with an orchard of 27 fruit trees, it came in quite handy. Good luck!
