Not for my desk - it's freezing here - but for my kitchen.
The fan in my range hood isn't working, but there's a window to the right of the range and a counter on the left; a small fan on the counter, facing the open window, is enough to stave off the annoying smoke detectors when cooking with high heat. And I need a new fan.

Suggestions?

We have a dual fan Honeywell that we've used on the floor, but they have a single fan version. It blows really well, but it is a bit on the loud side.

DS and I looked at one at BB&B that was also on the Target website (we got the Honeywell at Target and I was verifying the brand). It's made by Vornado -- it looks pretty good too.

The Dyson are neat and really move air quietly, but for $300 they should be incredible.

When I opened this I was hoping you were looking for a desk fan. I bought one for DS that he didn't want, so I brought it home. A little $5 RE mini (5-6") has saved me during this intense heat. My computer is next to a window that gets the afternoon heat and the breeze is wonderful.

Actually, Beth, that little $5 jobbie is probably what I'm looking for! Noooo way I'll spend $300 (or $100, or $30) - literally, just something small to move the air toward the window.
I was at BBB today -- wish I'd thought to look!

The $5 one was at Target, in CA, but down in Glendale where I got to see shopping carts go Disney. It's a 3-story Target and the carts have their own rails to ride up and down as shoppers go on the escalator. That sure was new to me -- but they had about 100 of those fans and they were marked down. I don't think they have any left here.

Good luck with the vent fan. That doesn't sound like fun to replace. Is it possible a breaker flipped or that there might be a loose wire or other easy fix? For me it's the DW that decided to declare its own vacation.
