I have a recipe for French Onion Soup that I found on a food blog. It is made in a crock pot. The recipe yields more soup than the 2 of us can eat in a few sittings. Can I freeze French Onion Soup?? I guess, why not, right? Just mostly broth & onions? Seriously, I don't know the answer?? Thanks!

My rule of thumb is generally that if I can buy a frozen version then it is fine to freeze my homemade version. So I'll vote yes, you can freeze it.

Yes, it freezes fine.
(This is without cheese or croutons.)

Yes, I freeze French Onion soup (without bread/cheese) all the time with excellent results.

I started making it this morning. I will tell you it is taking much longer to carmelize and brown the onions, even slightly:rolleyes: SO do allow much more time for the first step, 60 minutes isn't long enough. The house smells heavenly already:D Here's the link to the recipe!

Thanks for the link and I'm glad to hear it smells great!
I love French onion soup but the last time I made it - UGH! The onions made me and the whole house absolutely STINK. The next morning, I went to do my laundry and my clothes smelled so gross. No idea what in the world happened there but, needless to say, I've been a bit onion soup shy for awhile.
This thread is what I need to get back on the bandwagon...:)

Must be able to freeze it-- Aldi's has a frozen version with croutons and cheese I've been eating (slightly doctored) compulsively for several weeks-- my hubby-man does not like onion soup, so it's a me-only treat.
