I'm so excited! I got tickets to be in the audience for the Presidential GOP Debate on December 15th. I am a political junkie and have been following all the debates, except the one last week because we were out of town.

I suppose I should leave my Obama 2012 button at home....

Definitely leave your Obama 2012 button at home! I'm a political junkie too, but I haven't been following these debates - there are so many of them! I do listen to the reports afterwards; those are entertaining.

....or you could scream "LIAR" during the debates. ;)

How cool! I'd like to hear John Huntsman debate. I keep wondering when he'll get his 15 min, but I don't think he's extreme enough for the media or the GOP:rolleyes:.

Hmmm...that might be an idea when they invoke Reagan and tax cuts in the same breadth - which ignores the fact that Reagan actually increased taxes several times during his administration!

ClaraB - I like Huntsman too - it is unfortunate that he is not better at debating.

Even if Huntsman were better at debating (how could anyone be WORSE than Cain or Perry???) it's his ideas that don't resonate with the more extreme sections of the base.

Okay, that is cool! (says this Canadian who is a bit of a political junkie at times, and tries to keep a little up to date on what's going on in the US and elsewhere). Enjoy and please give us a report!

How did you get the tickets, out of curiosity?

Love this! :D

(Joe "Liar" Wilson is a rep from my state. How embarassing...)

I had to make a donation to the Iowa GOP party...I plugged my nose and am chalking it up to worth the entertainment value! :D

Waaaaa!! Cain can't drop out before I go to the debate! I was hoping for the full spectrum of candidates!

I mean, really, a mistress isn't disqualifying! Look at Newt - he has had mistresses that he then married and divorced and he is now in the lead in some polls!

He probably has his plate full right now dealing with his wife! Show some empathy, Sherri!!!

But yeah, that would have been a major draw for me, too.

A BELATED recap of the debate experience. December is a busy month....

I had an absolute blast - both from listening to the answers live, but also from the perspective of observing the audience. The crowd loved Newt and Paul - luke warm on Romney. A smathering of applause here and there for Bachmann, Perry and Huntsman.

I really like Huntsman - it is too bad that he doesn't have a chance. I can't recall what it was that Bachmann said, but I couldn't resist a boo (maybe it was her answer about how the judges need to be subject to subpoena so we can take back the constitutional order - or some such blathering).

I cheered for Perry when he managed to pull off his rehearsed line about being like Tim Tebow - I couldn't resist giving him some positive reinforcement. :D

The crowd truly scared me when the subject of Iran came up. The crowd really cheered the answers that we need to act decisively with Iran to prevent them from getting a nuclear weapon - even if that means war. And Paul, who said that a war was absurd was booed...loudly.

All in all - glad that I got to have that experience!

Sounds like you had a great time - the crowd response on Iran is truely scary. So many people somehow don't get the point that war kills. It does not discriminate among young hotheads, kids, peaceful people, families, etc.

It does not discriminate among young hotheads, kids, peaceful people, families, etc.War does kill, but the bigger point is that it would be completely unjustified for us to go to war with Iran. Didn't we learn from Iraq?

My only consolation with the GOP primaries is the hope that the only candidate who could be elected President is Mitt Romney, and he doesn't scare me as much as most of the others. Too bad Huntsman doesn't stand a chance, but he's tainted by his Obama association.

I think too many R's just wouldn't bother to vote if it were Mitt, and I's would probably be more likely to vote for Obama. It's just so hard to get a grip on who Mitt is and what he stands for, and I think that bothers a lot of people. That said, I felt much more comfortable with him before he started this flip-flopping; his political record wasn't bad, although his personal financial dealings are scary.

Mitt's flip-flopping is nothing new. He did that when he ran against Kennedy for Senate way back when and flip-flopped again when he ran for Governor. It would be almost funny if it weren't so scary to look at clips from past campaigns of his and see him give diametrically opposed positions each time, depending upon the mood of the electorate. Mitt is a shape-shifter. Always was, always will be. Kinda like New England weather -- if you don't like what he says, wait a few minutes and he'll change his position to get your vote. He wasn't any great shakes as guv (too busy running for pres, I suppose, to pay all that much attention to MA) and I don't have particularly high hopes for him as a would-be pres, either.
