ICK!! Perhaps my husband messed it up but this was awful!! We didn't have port so we substituted with red wine as the recipe suggests. We tried the scallops before we added them to the sauce and they were good but the sauce was very bitter and nasty.

What a waste of $8 worth of scallops.

I can sympathize. I picked up some beautiful sea scallops a few months ago for a CL recipe (can't recall which now, I threw it away so fast - it was on the recipe finder). It was awful - a terrible waste of perfectly good (and expensive!) scallops. I managed to rinse off all the "sauce" from them and salvage the scallops, but it wasn't the same. I don't experiment much with scallops anymore - from now on, I'll stick to my tried and true recipes.

Sorry you both had a bad experience with a scallop recipe. That really hurts when you go to a lot of effort to make something special. Sometimes when I am unsure of how a sauce recipe for shrimp or scallops will taste I try it out first on an inexpensive whitefish - that usually gives me a pretty good idea of if the recipe fits our tastebuds enough to be worth trying on more expensive seafood.

This is one of our favorite scallop dishes! Sorry to hear that you didn't like it.

My husband ( the ultimate bartender ) decided that dry red wine was not a good enough substitute for port, so he adds a shot of Grape Pucker to the wine. Surprisingly, the result is very similar to port.
