Hi All! I know that this has nothing to do with food (well then again, it might – chocolate may factor in here), but I wanted to post this poll anyway.

I for one have had a horrible past couple of weeks - we have had more rain in the North East than anyone needs in the middle of summer, my company just had a very large layoff, and I can't loose a single pound no matter how hard I try!

So here’s the question – what are you most thankful for?

My list starts with my wonderful sons – who have recently learned to play together without fighting. Also on the list are: My husband whom, even with his ‘moments’, is a joy to be with. My mother who offered to baby-sit tonight when I didn’t even ask her! The fact that I got in a 3 mile walk this morning - yes, in the rain – I’m still trying to lose those 15 pounds. & lo and behold – the sun is starting to break through! Yeah!

What's on your list? How do you keep yourself going when things get bad?

What a totally wonderful thread. I love hearing positive things from other people. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I am most thankful for happiness I have at home with my new husband (11 months), my challenging job with WebMD, and our wonderful health. Two other things to note are my undying faith in God and the birth and life of the internet. Otherwise how would I get to chat with others like this!!

Kelly...good topic!

I am thankful for my health. It seems the older we get the more we think about life. I am also thankful that I have such a wonderful family to share my life with.....a loving, easy going husband who puts up with all my moods...and a beautiful mature daughter who has found happiness with I hope her "soul mate" (fingers are crossed).

Hang in there Kelly...everything will turn out....right now the good Lord is just testing you. Where abouts in the Northeast do you live. I come from Massachusetts and yes we have had a rainy summer, but I am not complaining because I can't stand the heat and humidity. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

christinew....you are right and I agree...thank God for the internet http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

There are so many things to be thankful for...

My supportive husband who is also a terrific father and is always appreciative of my cooking. My wonderful parents who are loving and kind. My terrific in-laws who are like a second mom and dad to me. My house that, though cramped, makes me feel comforted and at peace. My small midwestern town that is warm, welcoming and a great place to raise kids. My moms club that keeps me sane while I stay at home with my two boys. And, saving the best for last, my wonderful boys.

Speaking of giving thanks, another thing to be thankful for is all the great food I can afford to cook. Do you all know about the Hunger Site - www.hungersite.com (http://www.hungersite.com) ? All you do is go the site, click a button and food gets donated to those who are hungry. An easy way to do a little something for those who don't have the opportunity to enjoy great food.

Boy if I listed everything I'm thankful for I'd be here all night, so I'll just hit the highlights. Most importantly, my husband of 5 1/2 years who is a wonderfully kind and loving husband and daddy to our three beautiful and HEALTHY children. We have a beautiful home, good jobs, and there is nothing we want for. I only wish we would always remember this, but we are human and sometimes take these things for granted.

My family
My health
My mind
The smell of a field of hay
The sound of a lawnmower
The sound of a chainsaw
Country Music
Dance music
The road under my feet
The sun in the sky
The shade of a tall pine
The buzzing sound you hear near blueberry bushes
Blackberries on the side of the road
The sound of kids on bikes
A sunset, sitting on my front steps
My baby letting me rock him
The smell of the back of his neck
Crickets at dusk
Clean sheets
A clean house
The smell of bread baking
The sound of those stupid bug zappers
Cool nights and warm blankets
Sitting around a campfire with my family

and before I get too sappy--
A big 'ole Rolling Rock cold from the fridge
and going barefoot! These are all things that truly give me such a warm feeling of "all is right in the world" I am always thankful.

What an absolutely wonderful Post!

I am thankful everyday that although I had to lose the two most improtant people in my "childhood" life, it made me love those around me with all that I am, rather than see them for what they are not. I am thankful for wet sloppy dog kisses, and the love of my husband and friends. For warm memories of childhood that seem to paint a "Rockwell-ian" image of what we think was, rather than what really was. I'm thankful for lessons learned both the easy and hard way, and that in the end I turned out OK (as a person that is). And I am thankful to have this forum to come and share thoughts of life and a shared interest in something I love with such wonderful warm, intelligent people.

And Amen, God Bless the Internet

This is great.
I am thanful for a wonderful husband. Three years married, nine years together and still on our honeymoon.
I am thankful for the 16lbs i have lost in the last 12 months. Because of that I am healthier and fitter than I have ever been.
I live in a great place with year round great weather.
Last but not least I have great parents and in-laws.
I could probably keep going but thats enough for now.
Suffice to say that life is wonderful right now. Long may it last.

At the top of my list is always my husband-the fact that I have found someone who shares my outlook on life and who wants the same things that I do. That in itself is a miracle. Not a day goes by that I don't think of how lucky I am to be married to him. It's been 11 wonderful months for us,too! I am thankful that I am able to exercise with my healthy body - and to complain about exercising and those extra pounds as well - since many folks out there would give anything to be able to walk, run or ride a bike. I am thankful that I finally have a good job that allows me to have a life and that my husband and I don't want for anything.

So how do we keep going on those depressing, gray days? I have to admit, I do love rainy days, but they make me lazy. We've gotten quite a bit of rain in NJ and I am thankful that our basement didn't flood. I feel thankful when I turn on the tv and see that, just one hour from our home, the streets are flooded and people's houses are being destroyed. Yes, sometimes it is hard to keep going, but it's something we all have to do no matter what. But at least we are alive and healthy to enjoy the good days and muddle through the bad ones; we can wake up every morning and we're able to see with two good eyes, hear with two good ears, and smell all that wonderful food we all enjoy cooking so much! (and taste it!!!)

I'm so thankful for my family. My brother finally got his diploma and is moving to a new apartment...so proud of his accomplishments. My mother has taught me what it means to be strong. My father has taught me the importance of being kind to others, and to do at least one good deed a day. And I've been reminded not to take health for granted...I found out this weekend that my grandmother has breast cancer, and my grandfather has a reoccuring urinary tract infection. The last one was so bad, he had to miss my wedding. I thank God everyday for the close family that I have.

I'm so thankful to have my husband in my life. We'll be celebrating our three-month anniversary next week. He makes my heart smile everyday.

I'm thankful for my health, my friends, the roof over my head, the clothes on my back, the food on my plate. The list could go on and on!

Last week, when I wasn't feeling so cheerful, I sent a co-worker an email that ended "MWF seeks silver lining".
Then I got to thinking:

When I'm tired...I'm thankful I'm not enslaved.

When I'm upset about "those 15 pounds", I'm thankful that I can eat whenever I want and enjoy it.

When I'm upset about my paintings (that's what I do) or the long nights trying to work, I'm thankful that I have a talent and that I can express myself.

When I miss my husband,(music is what he does) I'm thankful that I have one to miss. And when he comes home, I'm all the more thankful that I have one to hold.

When I'm upset about money...I'm thankful that I have enough to live and not enough to get sidetracked from what really matters.

And when my house feels too small, I'm thankful that I have the cats and the dog and the husband to share it with me.

As for the gray clouds, I'm thinking we could use a little rain anyhow.

Have a good day. Thanks for starting this post.

You guys are wonderful! I think I'm going to cry.

I'm thankful for the wonderful man in my life who as taught me sooo much; for my health; for my wonderful family and friends; for my great job that gives me the flexability to have a life; for the freedom to be happy when I want and to gripe and complain when I don't like something; and for the God who makes it all happen!

Wow! I have a lot to be thankful for, but I'll start with yesterday! I was in a small local restaurant and was eating a hamburger, when a bite got lodged in my throat and I proceeded to choke, if it wasn't for an off-duty policeman who performed the Heimlich manuever, I'm not sure if I would be with you today! Truly Scary, but one of God's angels was their to protect me! Please learn how to do this life-saving technique.

I'm also thankful for a great marriage of 2 1/2 years and a great relationship with my parents. For my women's group at church who's support and love constantly sustain me. I also am thankful for the ability to laugh and be joyful, I rarely have a bad day. That is truly a gift. Thanks for sharing and I am thankful for all of you, who's recipes and insights add so much to my life!

I started reading this, and must admit, began to get really emotional. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

These past two weeks have been long and hard, and I haven't had time to enjoy life, much less be grateful for it. So, first of all, thank you to all of you for your stories, for sharing the wonderful things in your lives to me, and the rest of us males who need to get in touch with our emotional side.

Not to be to sappy, I am most grateful for my friends, and my girlfriend, who have stood by me and encouraged me. They are a constant reminder of how wonderful life truly is, when you are surrounded by people you love, and who love you.

Thank you to you all. You know who you are. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
