View Full Version : Let's all say a prayer
Whatever your religious nature, let's all take a moment to in observance of the victims of these tragedies, pray for them, their families and friends, our country and pray that evil will quickly be put in its place.
Currently, one world trade center tower has at least partially collapsed, both are on fire, much of Mahnattan is under smoke, and they have confirmed a plane crashed in the courtyard of the Pentagon. It appears three planes were hijacked, and all airplanes in US airspace have been grounded. No takeoffs, and all planes in the air have been ordered to land at the nearest airport. They are saying we have seen nothing like this since Pearl Harbor. As Peter Jennings said, "this is HUGE."

Well said. My thoughts and prayers are with the families. It is going to take a long time before they realize just how many fatalities. This is definitely terrorism, war. This will not end tonight - we have to worry!

This is War. This will be ongoing for longer than today. My DH is in Detroit on business and I was due to fly to Raleigh-Durham for business.....everything is shut down. I hate that we are seperated...wish he'd hop on a bus or rent a car to get home.....it is unsettling for events of this size to happen and to be seperated from your spouse.
I think I will do to mass today.
Sending love to humanity. Prayers to all.

We have a friend who offices in the World Trade Center. Please include Robin in your prayers--we cannot get through or find out anything.
I am praying for all the victims, but there is something else you can do. Donate blood. Call the Red Cross--I have an appointment tomorrow morning.

My prayers go out to everyone involved.
Wonderful idea about donating blood, Jessica.
Even if you haven't done it before, please, please give it a try. What more noble thing, at this time, than to help those who desperately need your help.

In addition to the victims, I am praying for the whole country right now. We need it.

Jessica, I'm so happy your friend is ok... I'm amazed anyone could have survived that. I'm so sad...

We too have been offering prayers of support to our Country, the victims and their families.
One of the most distressing scenes on the tv coverage today was a shot of the people in Jerusalem dancing in the streets. I've put our American flag out in front of our house today to show support of our country.

I posted this on the other thread, but wanted to copy it here as well:
I spoke to my sister in Toronto - they had 4 of their Boston people killed in the one flight. They were part of the the Maxx Corp. (as in TJ Maxx) planning dept - or 3 were anyway and one from another dept. They were headed to LA for "the trip" they all want to go on. How tragic. She and the rest of the company got sent home early, and since they are near the airport, they wanted them out in case there is chaos there as well. Also, one of her co-workers has a sister and BIL who works at the WTC and only the BIL is accounted for and he is okay. Let's pray her sister is okay too!!!!

Only joined this board yesterday - cannot believe today's disgusting, horrifying events. This is just to say that I know the whole of England is thinking of you - all our television programmes have been cancelled or altered to give coverage of this dreadful, stupid attack. Love to all of you, and may your god be with you.

I've been watching this all morning. How tragic. My mother told me she heard that Palestine people were cheering in the streets. How awful. How awful that people have that much hate in them to actually cheer for death and destruction. It's a vicious unprovoked horrible attack that I pray will not go unpunished.
Why people think that killing other people will solve anything is beyond me. And to think people do this willingly - to kill themselves - it's amazing to me.

As a teacher, THE single most difficult thing I had to do (or ever will do) was to go in to school today. We live 60 miles from NYC but many, many people commute there for work. There were 2 students in my class- one whose father works for the NYPD and the other whose mom's work address was 2 World Trade Center- who were picked up by 9:30 yesterday morning and at the time, we didn't know why. Another girl's mom works for the school & her husband (my student's father) is a NYC firefighter. I was so sick yesterdaythat I could not eat. I barely slept.
This morning, school was open. We spent over an hour just talking, asking questions and trying to make sense out of the events. Let me tell you, I have some very bright, brave 5th graders! I was impressed by how well they handled everything when I didn't know if I could. By midday I found out that the parents of the 2 students were o.k. and were at home. The firefighter is still missing. I am hoping and praying that her dad is alive- join me by doing the same. Thanks!
We are beginning to learn of people we know who are probably lost in the WTC mess. One company DH and I used to do business with and a former business associate moved to may have lost 1300 of 1800 workers in the 2 towers, including all their IT folks. I am hearing all the IT folks were in one tower and the backup computers were in another, thinking that was enough separation for data safety. That probably impacts their offices nationwide, if not worldwide. Another company we dealt with had 1100 people in the towers, but we haven't heard how many of them have been accounted for.
My sister has an employee who has 4 brothers who are all NYC firemen or policement. Two of them were in the rubble, one pulled out yesterday, ot in great shape but not life-threatening, and the other made his way through the sewers and got out late last night or early this morning. So many amazing stories.
I continue to pray for all those unaccounted for and the families of all who have been touched by this disaster.

I am so sad I can hardly function. I feel like I am different from this event now and I am wondering how profoundly this must have affected those so much closer or involved.
I have never been this sad but praying helps. My heart goes out to the nation.
