What do you do with food that's "juicy"? Or things like soup?

I want to freeze batches of things I make, and I'm not sure the best way to go about it. Do you freeze it first and then foodsave it?

Yes, it's easiest to freeze these things first. I freeze things like sauces in square or round plastic containers so they are all a fairly standard size and can stack better, like bricks. Place a piece of plastic wrap in the container (make it big enough so that it is hanging over the edges), then pour in the soup or sauce and freeze. Once it is frozen, you can pop it right out of the container by lifting out the plastic wrap. Peel off the plastic wrap, foodsaver it, and pop back in the freezer. Hope this helps!

Thanks, Susan. Doesn't it run under the plastic wrap though? I guess I could try freezer bags.

You might try using an ample amount of plastic wrap so when you lift it out of the plastic dish, you could wrap it up. Then put it in a bag and seal it.

Exactly what Susan said! I just did this last night. DH left late last night for PA for a week, and I wanted to give him a great 'going away' dinner (He's going to his mother's, so my 'last meal' has to be impressive considering what I'm going to be compared to for the next 7 days!! ) I made him homemade meatballs in a wonderful pasta sauce, but we had way too many leftovers that I won't be able to put away next week, so I wanted to vacpack it. I lined a flatter type Tupperware container with plastic wrap, spooned my meatballs and sauce into it, folded the plastic wrap up around it, sealed it, then put it in the fridge overnight. This morning, I popped the top, pulled out the brick, peeled off the wrap and it was instant 'Better-Than-Stouffers' for next time!

I honestly think it would work even without the plastic wrap, since it's only being frozen for one night, and most stuff pops right out of plastic containers. I've done this with soups also, everything but chicken stock, which I like to freeze in ice cube trays, then pop the cubes into FoodSaver bags so I can pull out a few cubes at a time and then reseal. Easy peasy! :D
