I'm feeling so helpless in all of this. Who has some good ideas about what we can do to raise money for the Red Cross or other organizations? I just want to DO something!

How about a bake sale or getting corporate sponsors? I know a lot of my local businesses are hosting their own fundraising efforts (on Tuesday, the local theaters are donating a percentage of ticket/concession sales). I also read about kids in schools doing change drives.

Don't forget to support the American economy by buying locally and investing in the stock market. Small things like that will make a difference-- just like that cheesy bumper sticker: Think globally, act locally.

I think we all feel so very helpless in this time. I was thinking of calling the Red Cross to see what kind of volunteers are needed. As a rule, I volunteer raising money for our children's hospital several days a week, but this need is greater at the moment.

One thought is to contact your local military reservist office. With so many reservists, many of them moms, being called up, there are probably plenty of families that could use assistance with meals, cleaning or similar tasks. Or, there may be some special events planned for the families (e.g., picnics or fun days) that you could participate in. I think as our nation takes action in the near future, it will probably become more evident how we can contribute through such things as recycling, etc.
