ok...i know some of you haven't gotten september yet...and i'm sorry...but here's something to look forward to...

i made the "ooey gooey peanut butter-chocolate brownies" for a block party. let's just say, i heard several "oh man"s and "wow"s...there was not a scrap left in the pan...and when i told people they were "light", i was called a liar to my face. i only managed to get one, but yes it was ooey, gooey, and yummy!

now, let me also say that i boo-booed. i added all of the condensed milk to the chocolate batter instead of dividing...then i realized and had to add more to the marshmallow creme. so, i used 1 1/4 c, rather than the called for 3/4 c. so, i might have made ooeyer & gooeyer brownies than necessary...but since when does anyone complain about that! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

They sound wonderful! I can't wait to make them, as soon as I get the magazine.
Do you think you will make them the same way that you did the first time since you had a great response, or would you make it the way it's suppose to?

Thanks for the review!

tracie-- i think next time i'll split the difference and add only an extra 1/4 c!

Good but not outstanding - nonetheless, if anyone would like the recipe, just ask.

Don't need the recipe, but can I ask about the brownies?

Whenever I hear someone give an indifferent review, it makes me curious. What made these brownies so-so??

me again...
like i said, i only got ONE brownie...so my opinion was largely based on other people's oohs and ahs (too bad...i like to have a few tastes to judge by)

however, my batch did not taste "cake-y" at all. i think my condensed milk boo-boo may have helped and i'm sure the brand of box mix would make a big difference. i think i used duncan hines "super moist".

i hope others have better luck!

We made these last week, and thought they were outstanding. In fact I think they will have to be banned from the house because we ate them all in a day and a half. They're not light when you eat all 24 servings right away!

Whenever I try a chocolate dessert, I say that it's good but that it could really use some peanut butter. When I try something peanut butter, I say that it could use some chocolate. The marshamllow was an extra bonus. So when I saw this recipe, I knew it was for me. As my husband says, it has your 3 favorite ingredients! I guess people who's sweet tooth is not as strong could find them a bit overwhelming.

Did use low-fat condensed milk because I couldn't find fat-free at the store. Used "Fluff" as the marshmallow cream, and I think a Betty Crocker cake mix.

I didn't have the greatest results with these either. I thought they came out somewhat dry and more cake-like than I like my brownies. The only things I did differently from the recipe was that I used a Chocolate Fudge cake mix (Duncan Hines) rather than Devil's Food, and I used egg substitute instead of egg white. But I wouldn't think those two things would make that much difference. I did think the topping part with the marshmallow creme and peanut butter chips was yummy -- I just didn't like the main brownie part. Maybe I'll try it again using Andrea's boo-boo, and put more condensed milk in the brownie mix. Anyone else have any suggestions?

I'm new to this. I just joined Friday and of course nothing has worked since then, so I didn't know what was going on. I'm happy now though.

I made these brownies over the weekend for a potluck where there were LOTS of non-lowfatters. Everyone including us loved them. I used Betty Crocker Devils Food with pudding, and I used butterscotch chips instead of peanut butter. Just great! Very ooey gooey and yummy. Definitely a repeater.

We LOVED these! I can't remember the brand cake mix I bought, but I know it was moist (I think mostlikely Pillsbury??). They came out very fudge like and gooey, not dry or cake-like at all. I used fluff for the marshmallow cream, too. I didn't substitute anything. Everyone who tried them thought they were great and I will definitely make them again(okay, who got 24?? I must've cut them a wee bit too big. Ooppps.)

I made these this weekend, too. Everybody liked them, but I'd have to agree with some of the others who said they had a cake mix "taste". I love fudgy brownies, and they tasted a little too "cakey" for me. Maybe next time I'll try using a low-fat brownie mix instead of the cake mix.

Just had to jump in with my 2 cents here....I made these too, with great expectations....my husband LOVES brownies, and has been begging me for them since he saw the picture on the cover. Needless to say, I was tremendously disappointed, and I think there was a part of me that just knew these wouldn't be great because of all the artificial, store-bought ingredients. These weren't "home-made" to me at all. Just a conglomeration of boxed cake mix, jarred marshmallows and a bag of peanut butter chips. To me, they tasted really artificial. (But we ate the whole pan anyway??!?!!! I guess we're not THAT picky!!) But I would definitely NOT make these again...oh well, CL has so many winners, and I would imagine it must be hard to try and please everyone, so I'm not complaining.

I have to say I'm just the opposite from you, Grace, I thought marshmellow cream, YUCK. I've never bought the stuff in my life! But I'm on a crusade to find the perfect brownnie so I tried them. Everyone at work said they were the best ever (better than the raspberry cheesecake and the peanut butter ones even!). I had to quick take them to work before I ate the whole pan! There's already another jar of marshmellow cream waiting in my cupboard!

Yahoooo!! We can post again!!!!

I made these brownies and also thought they were only so-so.

However, there are two things I'd change to try to make them better if I repeat these. I think my cake mix was not a good one - I think I usually use Betty Crocker's Devil's Food mix - the butter one. However, I had Pillsbury in the cabinet (the kind with pudding in the mix) and it wasn't the Devil's Food kind. It just made the whole brownie taste like cake mix - you know, that after-taste some mixes have that just ruin the flavor. So, I'd try a different mix next time.

For my oven and pan, the baking time was too long - they were a bit overdone. I didn't pay much attention because Cooking Light's baking times always seem to suit my oven just right.

So, I don't know if it was those couple of things that I could do to improve them or if it was just that taste of boxed mix that irritated me. I've made the Chocolate-Chip Bundt cake that uses a boxed mix, but the flavor of the mix has never dominated that cake like it did with these brownies.

So, I'd give them a "maybe I'll try it again" rating.

Lorilei - I guess I just expected these to be more spectacular, what with the great cover picture and the yummy ingredients used. We did enjoy them, absolutely, but there are so many other good uses for sweetened condensed milk and peanut butter chips that I may well not repeat this recipe. Just MHO, of course!
