I'm going to change the tone here - and start a thread that features something I'm happy about today!
I took a Biology Test (40 years old and back to college, what was I thinking!!) and got a B+, which was really good, but then found an error on the test and the professor changed my grade to an A!
An unexpected blessing!!
What is everyone else happy about today??

Well, I'm STILL grinning about having won my first trial on Tuesday. :D And I'm happy that this week is almost over because it has been a very stressful one. I am happy that I will see some close friends on Saturday night and have a chance to unwind!
Congrats on your A!!

What a wonderful idea Debie. The tone around here has been discouraging.
And congratulations on your test!!! That's awesome!!! My DH is 3 weeks away from his MBA, and he's 44 years old. I know firsthand the struggles of going back to school "later in life". I'm so proud of you!!!
I'm happy because tomorrow I get to meet a friend I met on here - Minneapolis will NOT be the same when Jewel and I get through with it!!!

Yays all around to everyone. I'm happy because Dh and I are going on vacation next week to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. Also, I got my first paycheck in 5 months on Friday. Feelin' pretty good.

Good idea, Debie!
I am happy because I am getting nearer to the end of an uneventful and enjoyable pregnancy, and am very much looking forward to raising a son with my wonderful DH. I am also happy because I finally started participating in a CL supper club, which is something I have wanted to do for a long time now. And with the beautiful weather Florida has been having for the past week, it would be hard to not be happy.

I'm still giddy because I broke my marathon PR by four minutes, and my sister and mom are going out for lunch today -- they're buying :D

I have a silly little happy-thing.
I'm happy because it's almost the weekend and (here's the silly part) on weekend mornings my husband and I go to Panera for bagels and hazelnut coffee. I am pathetically obsessed with those bagels but I guess it's a nice and cheap thing to be happy about. If only we could listen to People's Pharmacy while we are in Panera life would be perfect. :)

I am happy because after a long and somewhat stressful summer, DH and I have finally, at long last, purchased our first house and have moved in. It is such a good feeling (of course that first mortgage payment has not been made yet...I keep expecting to wake up in the middle of the night and think OMG! What have we done!! )
We moved from Iowa to Colorado this summer, and we are loving it. We were separated for a month in June while DH was starting a new job, and I was finishing up my old one. That was hard :(
But, we have landed on our feet, both have new jobs that we love, and have moved into our first house. :D

Maybe this should be a weekly thread...it's cheering me way up.
Congratulations everybody on your recent accomplishments and soon-to-be-realized-pleasures!
I am happy because today is my day off, and I am waiting for some inportant phone calls so I am FORCED to stay at home and hang out in my comfies - it's the small things, right?
It's another beautiful day here - I'm not sure where the autumn is - still summer here! This weekend is Thanksgiving, we are going out to a lobster supper at the Mess on Friday night, and we are having 11 friends over for a gigantic feast on Sunday AND Monday is a holiday!! Wow, I feel even happier now that I've thought it all out - thanks Debie.

I am happy that my DD came home. She had left to live with her father in Feb. and was suppose to stay until June 02 or longer. The situation at that household became violent so she had to leave.
I am also very happy that our relationship is sooo much better. I can't tell you the relief I feel having her back.
Molli - Happy Wedding Day!!
Jewel and Sandy - Hope you have a great time.

Molli, congratulations...it will be a day you will NEVER forget! Take mental snapshots all day so you can replay the slide show later on...when you're sitting by yourself with the stupid grin on your face trying to tell yourself you're an independent, liberated woman, while all the while deep down you know that your life simply revolves around HIM. :D
Sandy and I will toast you on Saturday!! :D

I'm all worked up about going away to DC this weekend (you'd think a vacation would be RELAXING! ) But, I just got done digging around in the front yard & moving/replanting plants--its finally starting to look like I want it to. Hard work-but a worthy accomplishment!!:)
Mollie--May you have a wonderfully blessed & beautiful day! (sunsunsunsunsun!:p )
SandyM & Jewel-You all will have sooo much fun! Here's some sunsunsunsunsun for you too!
What a great thread!

Well, today I finally received my Penzey's order and I also bought a hand-held Braun blender for 12.99. I wasn't looking for one, but at that price I had to have it.
Now the day is not over, so there could be more things to add.

Best wishes on the wedding! Happy shopping! Gosh, I'm envious about the food processor! I need to ask Penzey's to change my address on their listing (and I'm envious of the spices!).
Me: well I'm signing my new puppy up for puppy kindergarten, which promises to be a hoot and a half. And on a lower, not so important, level, my new book is finally published after several delays (though I haven't received my copy yet... )

beejay - what book did you publish? Can we get our hands on it at our local bookstores???
I'm so glad so many people have happy things going on - I felt good just starting the thread, and now I've got LOTS to smile about.
Molli-happy wedding!

I don't have any one thing that I'm happy about, I just am! Maybe it's all the little things...home, family, friends...and maybe it's having better perspective nowadays on what's really important in life! Still working on that though - I still can easily get frustrated/angered by the trivial things, but I try to always be grateful for all the blessings in my life.

My office has Microsoft Outlook with the calendar feature that allows you to set recurring appointments. Around this time every day a message flashes on my screen:
GTFB
It stands for Give Thanks For Blessings.
It reminds me to stop and take stock of whatever it is that may have made me happy, and to give thanks for it. Some days all iI can come up at first is the fact that lunch was edible, but as I continue thinking I remember more and more things for which I should be grateful. Often, I weave those thoughts into a prayer.
I'm glad I started doing this: it's helped me see things from a better perspective.
P.S. Chefzhat asked about the book (for which, thank you!). The newest is called The City of Refuge. The books themselves can be ordered online or through Barnes & Noble or any bookstore; whether they're stocked is another issue from store to store. But why don't you check my web page instead? (www.tale-spinner.com) It's free; you'll find blurbs on both books, and if you click through (no charge) you'll find sample chapters. They're free to read. Ignore the sales pitch at the bottom of the page.

Great topic!
I am happy that my parents are coming to visit this weekend. We live in different states, and don't get to see each other very often so visits are very special.

I'm happy that I finally got some personal paperwork behind me. It sounds dumb to be so happy about it, but I'd been putting it off for AGES, thought I'd not be able to finish it up today, but would be stuck trying to talk to bureaucrats on the phone about whatever else I needed to have to complete the thing. Instead, Jill took one look at one bit of correspondence, said, "Oh, here's the information you need, there's not a problem." Then she pulled out a few papers, I signed a few things, and it's DONE! Yay!! (Thank you Jill, you're an ANGEL!!) :D :D :D :D :D
In cooking news, I wandered in to a cooking store, in search of burnt sugar essence, which they didn't have, and found that they had their Henkel's knives on %40 off sale!! I used it as an excuse to buy the chef's knife I've wanted for more than a decade, but couldn't work up the nerve to purchase because of the price. (a Five Star, 6" Wide Chef's knife, if anyone's interested in the nitty gritty.) :D :D :D

I'm happy today because:
My mom is here visiting and helping me with the baby.
I also got a haircut! Not just any haircut, a real grown up style haircut. :) I've had long, straight, all one length hair for the past 12 years and now it's short and layered. I don't even look like me!
(This is a great thread!)

Krista, what is it about having a baby that makes women cut their hair? I cut a couple of inches off of mine, too, but not as short as yours!
Okay, here's what I am really really excited about- my sister, her husband and their 2 kids are up from NC for a wedding and I get to spend today with them! Me and my sister email each other all the time, but I miss her so much! I think I'll probably get to spend some time with them tomorrow morning, too, before the wedding. I'm also excited because I took today off and got to sleep past 5:00am!

Susan, (MrsReber)
I think I cut my hair because I felt like I looked like a teenager, and I was getting weird looks from people when I was out with Jared. Also, he was grabbing my hair while I was nursing him!
Something else to be happy about: My mom sent DH and I on a date last night while she watched the baby. It was our first post-baby date! :)
