i am trying to figure out when a recipe says drop by Tbls or 2 Tbls or tsp, what size are the melon or cookie scoops? they have "mm" on them or inches, can anyone help me?
Donnagr, Hi,
I'm not sure this will be much help to you but I hope it is.
I like to use scoops when I bake Cookies too. I have 2 scoops I use, they're both Stainless Steel; one is about 1 1/4 inches across the scoop (bowl) the other is about 1 3/4 inches across. These scoops are the kind
where you squeeze the handle and a small bail inside the scoop releases the cookie dough.
I use the small one when it says (the recipe) to drop by a rounded teaspoon, and I use the larger one when it says to drop by rounded Tablespoons.
I want to get a larger one, like a quarter cup for those really big cookies, but for now I just use a quarter cup measure, and that seems to work out o.k.
I haven't seen a recipe that say to drop by 2 rounded Tablespoons, if I did I would just dip that big scoop twice and see if it was a quarter cup, I think it might be. But then I'm not as experienced a cook or as good a cook as the rest of the people on this Bulletin Board. I sure do like cooking though.
The thing I like about using some sort of measure for drop cookies is that when I do that they are all kind of uniform in size, I think it's better that way.
Well like I said I hope this is helpful to you. I would add one more thought. I bought a scoop made out of plastic because it was less expensive and I was feeling like a bargain that day, well it dosen't work very well for cookie dough, I think it might make a make shift ladle for gravy, but it was no bargain in the cookie business, so I would recommend the Stainless even though they cost more.

I simply use my stainless measuring spoons!
