Two that I order frequently are Tellicherry black peppercorns and the ground chipotle powder. And the dried basil really is superior to what you get in the supermarket.

Your list sounds great... I'll be interested to hear how you like the sate and the Northwoods Fire, as they both sound good but I've not tried them... :)

I'm assuming you're all stocked up on the "basics" -- oregano, thyme, basil?

Winter's coming -- that means lots of baking for some people. How are you on some of those spices? Nutmeg? Mace? Allspice? Cloves?

The only other thing I can think of is Pepper -- I always forget about pepper and place my order and THEN notice that I'm just about out.

Otherwise I'd say you've got quite the order headed your way.
Happy cooking!!! :D

Two I've learned I shouldn't be without:
Tellicherry Extra Special Bold Peppercorns and
Garlic Powder.

Penzey's Garlic Powder is excellent, wonderfully fragrant, etc.

Also, if you bake much at all I'd recommend any of their extracts: Vanilla, Almond, etc.. They really are good.

I recommend the double strength vanilla and second the motion on the basil and tellicherry peppercorns. Although I haven't used it yet I also bought saffron because the price can't be beat.

I realized my order was complete, except for Thyme. I do already have their Ground Ginger, Sweet Basil, Rosemary, Crab Boil, Madagascar Vanilla Beans, Black Sesame Seeds, Bay Leaves.

I'm now content (for the moment ;) )

I love Penzey's tarragon, it is very flavorful. Hmmm....I may need to browse over to their web page, I am sure there must be something I don't have and need- well, want.

are you the type to use pumpkin spice?
Their lemon pepper is good
Their italian dressing is good
The cheese sprinkle (the one in the bottle) is good
onion powder
garlic powder
dried shallots?
ancho chili powder is really good

I second and third the vanilla, almond & orange extract.

Also, I noticed that you're buying large quantities on some stuff. Are those your favorites? I tend to buy in smaller sizes to maximize freshness...

Oh, I really really hate this thread.

The last thing I need to be spending money on is more wonderful spices from Penzey's. I have *old* (i.e. non-Penzeys) spices that I need to use up, but somehow they now seem so second-rate, so inadequate, so without flavor. But the guilt- how can I throw away half-used jars of coriander, nutmeg, oregano, rosemary, garlic powder, tarragon? I will be zapped by the God of Waste Not-Want Not. I've already abandoned the curry powder I bought in the Spring and I am turning up my nose at the big container of cinnamon from Costco purchased when I didn't know any better. This board has wreaked havoc on my acceptance of the mediocre ;)

Waahhhh! :(

Julia, enjoy your wonderful spices!!

KValley, I understand your guilt. However, there is no need to throw out the old. Just get the new, and let them sit together with the old. That way, you have the new, and no guilt in throwing out the old. When I feel guilty, I sometimes will mix the old with the new. However, I don't have "mass quantities" of old. Also, I buy the small jars from Penzey's so that way I have an excuse to order more things sooner than later.

Do you like CUMIN? I am constantly going to The Spice House (same family) for additional cumin. Best stuff around.
Saffron?
I like both the Northwoods, which is only at Penzy's. (although I make my own rubs that I like better)
chili powders? It's that time of year........................

Oh, I could go on FOREVER!
Happy spicing!

oops! I didn't see the cumin listed in your list. Sorry! I must be dreaming.

I really like the Greek and Italian seasonings. I also think they have a good price on saffron. Oooh, the crushed rosemary is also really good.

I love Penzeys!! :D

KValley,

Not to encourage you or anything, but have you ever made cinnamon ornaments?

Take about a cup of cinnamon (the cheap kind, the cheaper the better), a tablespoon or two of Elmer's white glue and just enough applesauce to make a nice dough. (about 3/4 Cup) Roll out the dough, (I usually do the rolling on wax paper or aluminum foil to keep the countertop clean) not too thinly, or they'll curl as they dry, and cut ornaments. Make holes in the top to run a string through them later, let them dry slowly, and voila! Ornaments!
If you're really feeling creatively challenged, just roll blobs of the 'dough' into little balls, poke a hole through them (make it fairly large, they tend to shrink) and let them dry slowly. Voila! Cinnamon beads to string as decorations!

Just editing this to add: I'm not certain of the amount of applesauce here, just add some of it, mix it in, add some more, etc. until you have a nice dough. I've seen reviews of some recipes where people added too much liquid all at once, and wound up making a soupy mess, so you want to be sure to avoid that. I don't know if different brands of applesauce have varying amounts of water, so do be careful. Sometimes I add a bit of nutmeg, cloves and powdered ginger just for the fragrance. :)

Little Bit -- I was going to suggest that as a use for the Costco cinnamon, but couldn't remember the "recipe". Mine didn't have the glue, and I bet that makes them hold together better. You can use them as package decorations too -- especially on food gifts.

I like the sweet curry, the pasta sprinkle, bicentennial rub and California Pepper too.

For my uses, I would get more cinnamom, especially this time of year. I also think that sounds like an awful lot of dill. Check the volumes on some of the spices or you may get a lot more or less than you think.

I'm now ready to cook with the spices!!!! FYI, 4 oz. of cilantro is double 4 oz. of anything else!!!!!!

Last night I went through, and got rid of my old spices (I'm giving them to a co-worker). Yay!!!

Julia, next time you put together an order, look at the weight of a 1/2 or 1/4 cup jar, and that will give you an idea of how much is in a 4 oz bag. It's less of things with salt, powders tend to be in the mid range, but the leafy herbs can have an awful lot in a 4 oz bag.
