I am doing some research for a friend. He is replacing the appliances in his kitchen. Is a gas or electric oven better? I have gas and my mom has electric. Both of us seem to like our ovens fine.

Any thoughts?

:p

I grew up with an electric oven and the one in my first apartment was electric. The second apartment had gas. This scared me at first, but I loved it. The heat is even rather than the electirc turning on and off. I've never really had any problems with either, but as soon as the electric in my house goes out I intend to spend the extra money and run a gas line for the oven so that I can get a gas oven next time. Have you seen the Maytag Gemni? I don't know if it's gas or electric, but you can bake two different things at different heats. I would LOVE one of those. I always have such a hard time trying to time everything to come out at the same time and different cooing temps don't make things any easier. I don't know how much of a chef your friend is or what the budget is, but that could be an option as well.

without a doubt...gas cooktop, electric convection oven..there are many good threads here as you've already seen, but also check out the google groups food:rec:equipment ( there are opinions in almost every food category, but equipment is more substantial), www.thathomesite.com forums (appliances, kitchens and baths), taunton cooks talk discussions (this is the board of fine cooking magazine--its very active)..I found the most help with that very question. If you'd like more, let me know, I'll send away...good luck!!
