I take it you will be going to Portland, Oregon, as your profile says you are in Federal Way, Washington. Just checking to see if you mean Portland, Maine.

Here are a few of my favorite local restaurants in Portland (Oregon).

Caprial's Bistro & Wine is excellent. Caprial Pence is the owner, she has been on cooking shows on OPB and the learning channel. You will need to call for reservations - 503-236-6457

If you like Indian food, I highly reccommend the Bombay Cricket Club - 503-231-0740 (they take reservations) For more upscale Indian cuisine, try Plainfield's Mayur Restaurant 503-223-2995.

Three Square Grill is another excellent restaurant - 503-244-4467. They only take reservations for parties of 5 or more.

For Thai cuisine, Beau Thai in Northwest Portland is among the best. 503-223-2182.

Check out City Search for more information. They have had some recent polls on the best places to eat in Portland. http://portland.citysearch.com/Portland/Restaurants/

Happy anniversary!

Hi. When we went to Portland we visited Caprial's bistro for late lunch. It was not crowded so I suggest lunch since dinner time it might be quite crowded. I also noticed a LOT of Mexican restaurants in Portland & we really enjoyed MCormick restaurant...wonderful food!

If you're going to Portland, Maine, I highly recommend Street & Co. (seafood) on Wharf Street. The food was fabulous. We ate there while on vacation 2 years ago. (I hope it's still there!)If you go, be sure to make reservations (207.775.0887). We were lucky & got in for an early dinner. They reserve a few tables each night for walk-ins, but I wouldn't take a chance on my anniversary.

Have fun!

I agree with the recommendation for Caprial's place. It is not downtown, but in a nice area for afternoon shopping, strolling, poking around. I second the idea of lunch there.

For a nice meal downtown, we like Higgan's. You will need a reservation. We have also heard good things about the Heathman, but have not been. There is also a great "lounge" on top of some big downtown building that had great jazz and view of the city. I can't remember its name, sorry.

For fun and exciting things to do, I am little help. We go there to visit my in-laws, so not much fun time involved. There are some nice neighborhoods to shop/hang out, including the one where Caprial's place is and an area called northwest, I think. You know the kind of area, used to be funky, but now has a Starbucks on every corner...it is still pretty fun though.

Congratulations Melisa on your anniversary.

I've eaten at a couple of nice restaurants in the downtown area.

Veritable Quandry is very romantic - especially if its warm/dry enough to eat in the garden. It's close to the riverfront so a nice stroll there before or after would be possible. We ate here for our anniversary.

The other place I've eaten was wonderful Italian/pasta place called Basta's. It's just NW of downtown proper.

If you go to the citysearch website that RobinC pointed out, I believe both of these restaurants are listed and have websites with menus.

Enjoy!

Kim
