I'm wine-challenged and have been tapped to bring the wine to dinner tonight. I know we're having swedish meatballs and cheesecake. Any low-cost suggestions that will please a crowd?

Wow. I'm not sure about this one.

Maybe a very light red like Rioja (Marqués de Caceres makes a light one which is pretty reasonably-priced) or a Beaujolais.
Or, if you went with white... hmm... I'm less sure of that. (When in doubt, I usually go with Sauvignon Blanc-- but some of them are really, really dry.) I'll be interested in seeing what kind of feedback you get here. Sorry I can't give you a big blazing definite on this.

I think with Swedish meatballs, beer sounds a lot more appealing! If the hosts don't have their hearts set on wine, you could get a mix of micro-brewery type beers, or some Amstel Lite and Heinekens.

But, if they really wanted wine -- I think I also would agree on the Beaujolais. Or, maybe a German Riesling. This tends to be a sweeter wine, however, and is not a favorite of everyone.
