OK, I try to have an open mind with food and I like to try new things. In a search for something fast, easy, and low-fat for my lunches, I decided to try some of the Boca soy products (even though I'm not a vegetarian). The grilled veggie burgers aren't bad, the spicy "chicken" patties are pretty good but too spicy for my tastes, and the Chef Max's favorite (or something like that) are my favorite so far. I like it on a bun with a little light mayo, tomato, salt and pepper, lettuce if I have it, and feta cheese. But yesterday I tried one of their bratwurst sausages and it was NASTY! I couldn't even finish eating it. It had this, I don't know how to describe it, medicinal smell and taste. Gross! I think I thought I was buying the smoked sausage flavor, but accidentally got the bratwurst. I wouldn't mind trying the smoked sausage, but I'm too scared to waste my money on them now. Anyone else try the bratwurst?! I'm curious to hear others opinions.

Hi! I don't eat regular bratwurst so I've had no inclination to try the Boca variety BUT we always get the Boca smoked sausages. They are incredible! Yum! They even smell great while they're cooking. We usually just eat them like hot dogs (except, because they're so thick, we slice them in half longways) but we also put them in jambalya (sp?).
I recommended them to a friend a while back. She cooked them for her husband one evening. She told me that the smell brought him downstairs looking to see what she was cooking that smelled so good. She didn't tell him that they weren't meat until after they'd eaten. She said they were both pretty amazed at how good they were.

Linda, I haven't tried those, but I can vouch for the turkey brats in the meat dept., made by The Turkey Store. They are awesome, and they're the only brats we'll eat anymore. Sorry you had such a bummer experience!

I've had the Turkey Store Italian sausages - I didn't know they had bratwurst!! I'll have to look for it...

Are the Boca Brats and Smoked Sausage frozen? I don't think I've ever seen them, but I usually buy my smoked sausages in the 'chiller' section with the other sausages, and haven't looked in the freezer section. Is that where they are? I'd love to try the smoked sausage! :)

Jewel,
Yep. The smoked sausages are in the freezer section along with the soy crumbles, burgers, etc.

My husband and I like the Boca Smoked sausages. Dh is picky about food but he likes them.
I'm going to use a couple of the Boca Smoked Sausages in a quick Hot Dog and Bean Casserole dinner tonight. We've had them on buns and everyone liked them. A friend tells me that the Boca Italian Sausages are even better.
BTW Jewel, they are in the frozen section near the other Boca and Morningstar non-meat products.

I've tried the Boca Smoked Sausages and thought they were pretty good. I fed them to DD and she even like them. I swear, the child is going to be a vegetarian. She totally hates meat. DH and I are surprised that she sprang from our loins LOL!

I agree the Boca Brats are terrible! We do love the Boca Smoked Sausages though. My 3yr old eats them up and always asks for more.
