OK, I have been reading here about how great Food Savers are and have been thinking about getting one. But, we just bought a small chest freezer last month so I didn't think I should spend the money right now. Well, for some strange reason DH (who rarely watches television) watched the Food Saver infomercial on Saturday! And he's saying, "hey, we need to get one of those!" So I'm thinking, if DH wants to buy a kitchen gadget, I need to jump on that! Plus, Target (my very favorite store!) has them on sale this week (the stars and planets must be aligned!)

Anyway, I have reviewed the recent threads that dealt with this and am thinking that the 550 model is what I need. Do those of you who have one agree? If not, what model would you recommend?

Thanks for your help. Gaye

Gaye, there has been SO much written already about these little gadgets that I'd hate to repeat myself again, but you won't be disappointed in the FoodSaver at all! SandyM wobbled on the fence for a few months, and after much poking and prodding, she finally bought one and has turned into a "Stuff & Suck Comando" in less than a week! :D

How much is the Target price? Check out iQVC. This is the Compact II which is the same thing as the 550 model. Comes with bags, universal lids, vacuum stopper for wine and the smaller canister (perfect for garlic in fridge) for $124 plus $9 shipping. Weigh that against the Target one (with Tax...) and see which one is better!

I had been mulling over which model to buy and was going to buy the Ultra at Costco for $159 (but they now carry the 1050 for $169) . However, I decided to buy the amazon.com deal for $99 and don't regret it. I have only had it since Sat., but I have already "saved" a lot of cheese and other things.

Do as Jewel said, compare prices and watch for sales. QVC demoed the one Jewel mentioned on TV this weekend. I'm not sure if that buy is still available though. Also, go to the wesite at www.tilia.com and read about the models and what each has to offer.
