mocha mousse

Has anyone made the mocha mousse from the August 2000 issue? My room mate and I are going to make it tonight and I wanted to know if it were any good or not.. and if there were any problems with the recipe. We are also going to make the oriental salad from the same issue. Any input would be great.

Haven't made the mocha mousse, but the Oriental Salad is wonderful!!!! Only one suggestion for it - make it at least an hour ahead of time, to give the noodles time to soften and the flavors to come together. I had heard complaints on this board that people thought the noodles were too crunchy or hard, but when we had it we made it two hours before we served it and it was phenomenal!! I can't wait to make this one again!

Sorry to hear you were disappointed - nothing worse (in my opinion) than spending time, money and energy to make something with high hopes, only to be disappointed. Might I ask what about the salad you didn't like? We liked it so much (way better than average), I guess I was kind of surprised that yours was disappointing. Anyhow, we indeed each have our own tastes, and that's what's fun about this board is getting everyone's opinion, but I'd be interested in more details if you wouldn't mind elaborating! Also, I plan to make this mousse, and I'll report back and let you know if I had the same problems you did....thanks!

I was just a little disappointed with the salad. I thought the dressing was a bit sweet and the noodles didn't get soft enough for my tastes. I was okay but not anything i'd make again. Hope your mousse turns out better!

Well, we made both the oriental salad and the mocha mousse last night.. personally I was disappointed by both. The mocha mousse did not turn out smooth b/c the egg whites were very hard to fold into the chocolate mixture. I don't know exactly what the problem was.. Also, it had a very strong coffee taste which was good but a little unexpected. I was expecting something a little more subtle. Anyway, if anyone else tries the mousse and has good results let me know.. maybe i'll be up for trying it again.
