ok so i'm not a regular for posting things but i always read the BB. This is my second year at college and am finally being veiwed as an adult for the family thanksgiving meal. all this really means is that i have to bring a dessert, which i am really exctied about doing. my biggest problem is that my dad's entire side of the family is diabetic. if anyone could suggest a recipe or two i'd really appreciate it.
p.s.- i'm not even really sure what constitutes low in sugar!
thanks!

I am sure that others will have better diabetic deserts with actual recipes--but I would suggest baked fruit. It is very easy, delicous, and would transport or hold very well I would think. I made apples tonight with Penzey's Apple Pie Spice and no added sugar and they were just great. You could add your favorite cobbler type topping (biscuit, granola, pastry crust, etc.) watching the sugar in the topping and have a very nice no sugar added at all offering.

You should check out www.splenda.com. Splenda is a new sweetener which tastes just like sugar. Also, you can bake with it. They have some good sugar free desserts on their site.

I would definitely refer you to equal's website at www.equal.com These recipes are tried and true. I've made several of them with great results. My DH is a diabetic. One word of caution about the artifical sweetner Splenda. My DH wanted to try it and we noticed his sugar readings were higher than usual. He had use Splenda for about 1 month. His Endocronologist suggested he stop using it and his sugar levels returned to normal (for a diabetic). His doctor said that it was just the way his body processed it. I'm not against the product just saying its not for everyone. Happy Baking! Patti
Welcome aboard! Although I am not a diabetic, I do not eat things with a lot of sugar. I find that you can cut the amount of sugar nearly in half and have good results of high-sugar desserts. Also, check your search engine for websites by doing a "search" and typing "sugarfree" I have a website that I go to frequently, has all types of recipes w/o using sugar substitutions. If you want, I'll post it for you.
Happy baking :D
