Hi!
I am hoping all of you creative people can help me!

I was supposed to move into my new house yesterday, however it is not done on time and I now find myself having to live in an empty house all week (we have all of our stuff packed in a truck and are renting a townhouse for the week).

I will have a fridge, but no stove and no cooking utensils other than those that I buy from Kmart to make it through.

What great ideas do you all have to survive this week?

What essentials should I buy to help prepare what little I can?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Lisa

Key question: Will you have a microwave?

I guess here's what I'm thinking IF you have a microwave (avoiding nasty frozen dinner ideas):

* You can definitely do lots of pasta dishes
* Rice (made ahead and frozen) reheats in a snap in the microwave as well, so you can have creative steamed veggie stir-fries
* You could make meals ahead of time and freeze them to reheat during the week you don't have a stove. This way, you could get really fancy.

Since I'm assuming you don't have a microwave, here are a few basic ideas:

* Cold pasta salads (make noodles ahead)
* Sandwiches, wraps, etc -- be creative. Think of things you might be able to grill outside?
* Make fruit salads and side dishes. You won't feel like you're scrimping.

Hope this is a little bit helpful. Are you looking for recipes or just ideas?

Unfortunately, I had no time to prepare ahead of time for this! I do have a microwave though- but have no experience cooking with one...

If I had to choose just one thing to cook with it would be my electric skillet. It costs about $30 and you can cook just about anything in it!

My suggestion is to get yourself a one burner electric hot plate. They don't cost much and can be very handy for all the things you do on top of a stove.
