View Full Version : Has anyone tried Tofuturkey??
Just wondering if anyone has tried this product? Is it any good? It is available in the frozen section of our local HFstore (Capers) but I have not got the nerve up to try it (it is expensive). Any brave souls out there?

A few years ago, I invited a friend and her son to join me and my son for Thanksgiving Dinner. She accepted and then told me her son was vegan.
She insisted that I not go to any trouble to prepare special foods for him, but of course, I made two kinds of stuffing, one without butter and chicken broth...two kinds of mashed potatoes, one without butter and milk...etc.
He brought a Tofurkey (I think that's what it was called.) What a hoot! There were these little flat drumstick shaped things (think cookie cutter) and a roll of fake turkey. I was NOT brave enough to try it, I already had a beautiful bird roasted to perfection and didn't want to ruin my dinner.
He ended up eating basically NOTHING, and I had leftovers (two versions of everything???) for weeks.
Lesson learned!

I bought one last year to try out, and wasn't too impressed. The texture bothered me, and I realized that I had prepared more than enough other (veggie) stuff to eat that I would have been satisfied without it. I doubt I'll buy another one as 90% of last years ended up in the trash.

I agree with Lisa's thumbs down. My BIL and SIL are vegetarians and brought this to Thanksgiving a couple of years ago. They did not like it at all. It's pretty expensive too. In their opinion, all the other side dishes are so good at TG that it more than compensates for the turkey.
It did provide amusement for everyone though. My husband still teases them about the tempeh drumsticks!
