I am getting the hang of Mastercook (thanks for all the tips!!!).
But, I still cannot figure out how to add a new ingredient- one that is not already in Mastercook.
Any tips? Thanks, Dawn

I'm confused by your question. Are you trying to alter a Mastercook recipe, edit one you have entered, or are you talking about how to enter the whole recipe?
I simply go to New Recipe under file to start a new recipe, if I'm in the middle of entering and notice that I forgot an ingredient then I put the cursor on the line above and then clcik on Add a Row under Edit. Most of the time I just add the ingredient as it is listed in the recipe then do a Nutrional check and if an ingredient comes up under "unable to recognize" or whatever that's called, then I will check MC's list to enter it the way that it will recognize it.

Dawn,
If you are talking about entering in a new ingredient that MasterCook does not have in its database (such as ROLO candies), then here is what you do. First, go to the menu across the top of the screen and choose "tools." Then choose "ingredient list." Then, when the box pops up, you will see some buttons in the bottom left hand area. Choose "new" and the program will let you enter in a new ingredient name. Then it will let you fill in all of the nutritional information. Then just be sure to hit the "save" button. Hope this is clear!

I have another question about MC. When typing in recipes it makes every word start out all caps. (ex: Reduced-calorie Stick Margarine, Melted), I would rather it be "reduced-calorie stick margarine, melted). Is there a way to change it. I know this seems picky, but I don't like the way it looks.

Thanks Sneezles and Laura B!!!! Sneezles- I figured out your method when inputing the first few recipes.
And Laura, yes, I was trying to enter something not in the list.
Much thanks! I am pleasantly surprised at how easy it is- I am embarking on the arduous task of transfering all my tear-outs and putting them into MC to cut down on the mess. I am also looking forward to using the shopping list feature to save time.
Again, thanks. As I progress this week while on vacation I may hit you up for some more help.

You're welcome, Dawn! Glad I could help. MasterCook is really very easy once you get the hang of it. And you can do so many cool things with it. If you have more questions, ask away!

Terrytx,
Go to Edit/Preferences/Cookbook,Recipes and see if the second option (the one about using Title Case-- is checked. Remove the check and I think your capitals will be gone.

Thanks, but I already tried that but they are still there.

Terry, I have noticed that, too. I cannot find a way to change it, so I just go with it. It is not worth it to me to go through and change the way every ingredient is typed.

Laura, I agree, but I thought I'd ask one of the people who understood the MC better than I do. I'll get used to it I guess.

Terry,
It may not change the ones you already have typed but it should change any future recipes that you type in. I can't think of any other way to change it unless it is through the print design of the recipes. Mine does not do this so it's got to be an option that you have put in or haven't changed from the initial settings.

Elinor, I think you and Terry are talking about two different things. The "title case" function makes the titles of the recipes all caps. Terry is talking about the way the ingredients appear when she types them in.
Terry, I thought that I had the same problem, but actually I don't. I just went to play around with it, and the ingredients are listed with all lower case letters unless there is a proper name in the ingredient, and then that one begins with a capital letter (e.g., "American cheese", but "whipped topping"). Could it be the version you use? Mine is version 6. Just a thought.

I have the same version. Mine make all the first letters capital except after a dash (such as Fat-free, Low-sodium Chicken Broth). Maybe I have a grimlen in my MC.

Terry, that is truly odd. I have no idea how to change that. Your best bet is to go to the mastercook bulletin board and ask about it. I am sure you will get an answer. Whenever I have asked something there, one of the moderators has given me an answer pretty promptly. http://community.sierra.com/WebX?14@@.ee741bb

I was just thinking about doing that. I'll get right to it.
I went there and don't have a clue about how to go about asking a question on that forum. I guess I am doomed with caps.
