Hi Everyone,

While reading the great recipes on the greek recipe thread, they got me thinking about more authentic international dishes. As Gail mentioned I love getting and cooking authentic international dishes from anywhere and everywhere. If anyone has any recipes they would like to share please do (could you say where they are from - Mexican, Greek, Lebanese, etc, or if you have previously posted recipes on another thread maybe you could direct me to the right place. I love to learn about different cultures and their foods!!

I hope I am not asking too much. I thank you in advance.

Terri

But of course I'm the first one here. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Check under International/Regional Recipes in the Popular Threads archive for starters...

Thanks for reviving an old favorite.

Aw, shoot. And to think that if only I had slept here at work, I wouldn't have been the third here http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I'll have to think a while before I post, but I'm sure I have something to contribute around here somewhere http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Back even sooner than I had planned. This Irish cake recipe has been floating around my family for years. I have no idea where it came from and it's not the lightest thing in the world, but it's lovely http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

ALMOND CAKE w/ IRISH WHISKEY WHIPPED CREAM

Butter or shortening to grease pan
1/3 cup sliced almonds
3 large eggs
1 cup plus 2 Tablespoons sugar
1 stick softened butter
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup plus 2 Tablespoons Irish whiskey
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup heavy whipping cream

In a medium mixing bowl, cream together the butter and 1 cup of the sugar. Add the eggs one at a time and continue to beat until creamy. Add baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, 1/2 cup of Irish whiskey and flour, beating well.

Bake for 30-35 minutes at 350 degrees F, until a knife inserted comes out clean and dry. Cool.

To make Irish whiskey whipped cream, beat together whipping cream, sugar and remaining Irish whiskey until desired consistency. To serve, slice cake and dollop with whipped cream.

Serves 6 to 10
