Hi all! I just received a box of 12 'Royal Riviera' pears and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for how I can make my way through them before they spoil?
I was thinking maybe a pear bread might be fun or a tart (of course Grace's Galettes come to mind--my fave! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif ) or some sort of crisp. I don't know.
Also--does anyone have any idea what more common type of pear they are similar to? Maybe that would give me more ideas.
Thanks!!!
I wish I knew one pear from another. All I can tell you is if you haven't eaten any of them yet, do. They are positively the BEST pears I've ever eaten. (Harry and David, right?) If they're ripe, I'd refrigerate 'em fast, because they spoil quickly. Call me a fool-- and I know this isn't what you wanted to hear-- but with pears that good, I'd just eat 'em with cheese, eat 'em with nuts, eat 'em alone...

I'm with Gail, don't use these pears for baking and such. Enjoy them out of hand or very simply, with cheese and bread, or cut one up in a green salad, maybe with some cheese or nuts, raspberries if you can get them, and a light vinagrette.

Beth, if you are going to try a salad, let me suggest the "pair salad" from January of 1999. You can find it in the recipe search under pear.

I love that salad; we just had it a day ago. The Pear Sauce from that same issue is also very good. Much better than applesauce. However, I vote for eating them straight also!

Umm.. I'm so sorry...I don't have any idea how my "welcome back" post ended up here. And I don't even have any ideas on the pears for you!
Ooops....:o
