Has anyone made the Granny Smith Apple Cake from the October issue yet? I was thinking of making it tomorrow and wanted some feedback.

I made this cake last night. It was pretty easy to make. I used my apple/peeler/corer/slicer that's mentioned on another thread.
I took the cake in for a meeting at work this morning. As I carried it to and from the car I noticed that it is VERY heavy for a cake.
My coworkers told me that they really liked it and one asked for the recipe.
It is a very moist and dense cake, but I thought it was kind of blah. It has 1 tsp each of cinnamon and nutmeg, but it just didn't have a lot of flavor to me. I like the Cinnamon Apple Cake much better. The reason I tried this one is that I needed a bigger cake and this one is made in a 9x13 pan.
My overall opinion...unless it tastes better tomorrow, okay but not a keeper.

Hi. I have not checked that recipe since I got CL yesterday but it sounds like you need more spices. You might also try combining different apples. I would add some ground cloves, maybe a dash of ground allspice along with the cinnamon and nutmeg (fresh ground)Does it call for vanilla extract?
The cinnamon apple cake (with the cream cheese) its outstanding. Maybe this October cake just needs a little more added to it
