I know that the HeatherFeather Rice Method has long been praised and lauded on this board, but last week with the in-laws in town, I was so incredibly happy to be in on this secret. The double-special micro method allowed me to continue with the SuperFeministMartha facade that I have erected in front of the real me, putting a light, fresh, well-executed dinner on the table in 22 minutes flat while flitting around my recently-vaccuumed home expounding on world politics and the like.
t-22 minutes: Rinse and measure basmati rice. Pour self and in-laws glass of wine
t-20 minutes: Rice in micro on 100% for five mins. Preheat oven to 500. Chop many cloves of garlic; mix some into yougurt along with lemon juice and buzz with handheld mixer
t-15 minutes: Rice gets set at 60% for 15 minutes. Set table, with neatly pressed cloth napkins, spotless flatware, and shiney wine-glasses-cum-water-goblets
t-10 minutes: Remove salmon from fridge. Rinse, rub with some of the chopped garlic, salt, pepper. Throw skin side down into hot oven on a cookie sheet.
t-8 minutes: Use remainder of garlic to make vinegarette with honey mustard, balsamic, and imported small-batch olive oil. Toss with baby spinach from a bag, a chunk of crumbled goat cheese, and sliced apple (from the farmer's market, doncha know)
t-1 minute: Plate roasted salmon, drizzle with garlic yougurt sauce, call everyone to dinner....Rice is perfect.
Take that, evil cassarole-making backward-thinking mother-in-law! Maybe I am not perfect, but you sure as heck are never going to see it!
It was all about the rice, baby.
