This sounds silly, but I've never bought frozen fish before, and I don't cook any other meat, so I'm a little lost! TJs had some nice thick halibut so I bought some, but now what??? What's the best way to thaw it and how long should it take? Right now it's vacuum-packed in the freezer, so tell me what to do!

It is always defrosted by the time I use it, but I don't pay attention to exactly how long it takes. You can probably do it ina sink of cool water also.

My SO is a fishing fanatic, so we eat it quite often. He just takes it out of the freezer and lets it thaw in the sink. My grandma insists on doing it in the refrigerator, but the sink is fine.
We freeze it in water and wash it off and trim it after it thaws.

I defrost fish in a sinkful of cool water - be sure to change the water about every 10 minutes. It takes about an hour.

We have fish probably about once every 2 weeks. I just throw it in the sink with cool water and change the water frequently.
