I just wanted to share this. We were so excited. I'm in NYC on business, and my husband and I really wanted to try Mesa Grill. Reservations for Friday night were difficult to come by, but my husband works with someone whose husband knows Bobby Flay (or something like that). Anyway, he got us a 7:30 reservation for Friday night.
The food was absolutely fabulous. I had the ancho pork tenderloin with a sweet potato tamale. DH had the special of chilean sea bass. We thought the appetizers that we had were only ok, but dessert (hot apple cider cake) was great.
Bobby Flay came over to our table to introduce himself and sign a cookbook for us. I'm not usually the type to go nuts over celebrities, but it was kind of fun. Whether or not you like his personality, he can definitely put a good meal together!

Wow! How exciting! I am not a fan of Booby Flay's, but it would still be exciting to have him come over to my table. And even though I don't like him, I would like to eat his food. Yum!
Was he going around to everyone's table or did he come to yours because of your connection that knew him?

No, that was the cool thing. He only came to our table, and no one else's!

Susan,
How cool! Although Bobby Flay is not one of my favorites...the thought of an autographed cookbook is right up my alley! Glad you guys had a great time and enjoyed a "good feed"...as my Aussie hubbie would say ;-}

LOL! You guys crack me up - my cat is giving me strange looks.
I've been working on a school project all evening and just decided to check the board for a few minutes to unwind before going to bed. This did it - now I'm in a much better mood! :)
Susan - how fun! Glad you enjoyed your meal.

Yeah, granted: Bobby is a great chef,etc....but I can't forguve the incredible rudeness he displayed when he was a challenger on the Iron Chef. At the end of the first episode he was on, he jumped up on the cutting board and danced around because he thought he had won (he hadn't). That was just a horrible thing to do, not only to dance around on the surface where they prepare food, but also because he offended the host of the show and his opponent (you just don't act that way when you're the guest of a Japanese). If that were not bad enough, when they had a rematch later in New York, he did it again, just to spite his Japanese opponent! He won this time, and that rubbed it in even more.
I dunno...that was just unforgivable.

Booby? Was this intentional?;) :D I don't like him either but I'm glad to hear that you had a wonderful evening.

:o Oh, my gosh! NOW I understand beacooker's post. I was wondering about what she meant by that. It was not intentional, but it does reflect my feelings so I am not going to edit it. :p

Please don't be embarassed Laura, it provided a good laugh, not to mention a reflection of the sentiments of many for old Booby Boy.;)

I think someone on this board once referred to him as Bobby Flake and I have called him that ever since. LOL

Flake or boob; it doesn't matter to me. :D
That sweet potato tamale was the best thing I have ever tasted. And I didn't think I liked sweet potatoes OR tamales!

Oh, Susan! I did not mean to take the thread away from you and your experience. It is just that whenever he is mentioned it never fails that people pipe up and say that they don't like him. I hope you know that my dislike for Booby Flake does not dimish in any way how impressed I am with him coming to your table. I would certainly eat at his restaurant if given the chance. I am sure his food is fantastic!

Laura,
No offense taken! I was joking around too. Kind of hard to tell that sometimes in writing. Besides, I could never take offense from a fellow Tarheel (UNC '92)!
I do know that a lot of people don't like him. I'm not sure I have an opinion either way, but I certainly liked his food.
