Can anyone tell me of a good website for typing in and storing personal recipes?

I've seen that service on a number of websites, but I'm curious to know whether other people use them. I guess I'm not sure I want to trust those recipes I want to a place I can't see or control. With the number of websites that go bust, I'd at least say be careful to go with a name you feel has longevity (BHG?) and inquire what kind of notice you could expect if they decide to discontinue the service. Would they e-mail you a copy of those recipes? Etc.

I don't know about storing recipes on a web site, that seems risky to me, you could go through a lot of work to put them in and wind up losing them.
I would suggest instead your own copy of a good cooking software. I'm Partial to Master Cook, the Cooking Light Version. General Mills has a special promotion on specially marked boxes of Cheerios where you can get the CL version of Master Cook for $9.95
you can look on their site for more info: http://www.cheerios.com
I have that version and can recommend it.

I agree with Ed that Mastercook is a great software to store your recipes plus it has other functions that is helpful to use, such as, searching by categories, ingredients; shopping list (haven't used it yet), etc.
There is another place that I love to visit other this BB and its www.cyber-kitchen.com (http://www.cyber-kitchen.com) This board offers free web page for your recipes. Take a look and see if this is something you are interested in.

Thanks Ed, for posting about the General Mills promotion. I have been considering MasterCook for awhile and now I think I'll get it! (Can't ignore a good coupon!) Thanks again!

I have the Master Cook CD. I hear alot about the CL version. Is there that much of a difference where I should purchase that one also?
Hi Pattikake,
I'm certainly no expert on the Master Cook Software question, but the Cooking Light version that I have has recipes on it from CL.
As I understand it the "regular" Master Cook software has recipes on it too, maybe some are from CL I don't know, but I think the CL version has "only" CL recipes.
The version I have is that way only CL recipes from 1996, 1997, & 1998 magazines and annual CL Cookbooks.
I think it's great, and I'm glad to have it.
As I said before, in a previous post, it's only $9.95 with 3 "O" codes from special boxes of Cheerios. IMO for the price you can't beat it, and I'm glad CL went into this venture with General Mills.

Sierra puts out a number of MasterCook variations. All that I have seen are basically the same software with a different assortment of recipes. The Cooking Light recipes are found on the Best of Master Cook (is that now called the Master Cook Suite?)and the Cooking Light program, but you get a different assortment of CL recipes in different versions. The software is good, but Sierra doesn't readily identify what you're getting in each program or what's changed in an update. I still say try it. If all else fails, Sierra gives you a 90 day guarantee.
How does Master Cook do the nutritional analysis? Can you type your own recipe in and then it will give you the nutritional analysis, or will it only give you the analysis for individual ingredients?
I have so many recipes that I would like to have the nutritional information for. I would consider master cook for that feature if it will give the info for the whole recipe. Thanks.

Sorry to report, but even though the Cheerios website says their software deal ends 3/1/01, the specially marked boxes haven't been around for several months. Chex cereal had a similar offer (buy 3, pay only $1.99 shipping), but again, I haven't seen any specially marked boxes in a long while.
Your best bet for MasterCook is to search the web and try to get a good cyberdeal. Good luck!

Question - does Mastercook work on Macs? I've been dying to get this software, but I haven't seen any that is mac-friendly.

In answer to your question: yes, when you type in your recipe, Mastercook gives the nutritional breakdown of the whole recipe and of each ingredient.
