Last night, DBF and I watched the conclusion of Pearl Harbor with a friend of ours. It's a very powerful movie - after the first half-hour or so.

Anyway, today we realized that we disagree on just what happened. If you haven't seen the movie - don't continue reading! It'll spoil the ending!

The question is: whose baby is it? I firmly believe that the father is Danny; after all, the timing seems about right. Ben Affleck/Ralph was overseas for too long for it to be his, right? And Ben Affleck tells Danny, as Danny lays dying in the rice paddy, "You're gonna be a daddy!"

DBF says Ben said that to cover his butt, and to make Danny feel better.

We're confused -- how do you guys all see that?

I thought it was Danny's. I haven't seen the movie since it was in the theater, but I thought she found out she was pregnant before Ben came back--which would make it Danny's. I figured Ben said to Danny that you're gonna be a Daddy because Danny was dying and maybe to give him strength not to die--you know how they do that when people are dying thinking that it will keep them from dying!

She and Ben never slept together - remember they were going to, and he said "No, I don't want it to be this way", and then he left and was thought to have been killed.

Then they showed her Danny having sex, and then in the next scene with her nurse friends, she was in the bathroom throwing up, so it was obvious they wanted you to know that she was pregnant from Danny.

This movie got such bad reviews, that when my husband rented it last week I was sure it was going to stink, but I was very pleasantly surprised. It was a LOT better than I had thought, and I liked it very much.

Definitely Danny's! Ben Affleck was trying to give him something to hold onto life for...and Danny was smart enough to know that he was dying anyway, and that in reality he and whatever-her-name-was would end up together, and that BEN would be raising his child, so he said "You are going to be a Daddy now..." or something to that effect.

I liked the movie, but that woman just grated on my nerves! I guess it's the 'playing both friends against each other' thing. I know, all's fair in love and war and all that poop, but it just seemed to me that she loved whichever man was there at the time, right down to the end! (Happy family playing outside during the ending credits...)

And, the kid that they are playing with at the end of the flick looks just like the guy who died.

BTW, am I the only one who really didn't like this movie. I mean the battle scenes were incredible and the focus of the film - but the side romance/friendship didn't really cut it for me.

The baby belongs to the guy that dies...I can't remember their names, its been a while since I've seen it. Seems to me like there was a panning to the distinctive eyes to show that they didn't belong the the Ben Affleck character.

Janet...I was with you...it got long for me...I think its that their romance wasn't that interesting...I LOVED Chocolate and how they did the romance with life as well as with the people so I can't explain why but it was just lame and predictable for me.

My boyfriend and I just watched it last night, and we haven't finished it yet. However, after the seen where she was sick in the bathroom, I told my SO that she was probably pregnant. All in all, we thought the movie pretty predictable.

On the other hand, we watched Chocolat the previous night. Wonderful moive. Very real characters, and I enjoyed the fairy tale quality.
