I want to share the terrific experience of our first Supper Club. It was a couple of weeks ago, but with the holidays I'm lucky to be posting this before January!
We went with the suggested "Tried and True" menu and agreed to make ahead as much as we could since we were meeting on a weeknight. I realized just a few hours before everyone showed up that I could not possibly seat 8 people, so I dragged our patio table inside and covered it with an extra tablecloth. I've left it up and am now calling the dining room my bistro! I think that each person brought at least one bottle of wine, so we all got to try something new.
Matt made the Layered Bean Dip, which was great. The homemade pita chips were a big hit (he said he burned the first batch, but the ones we got were great).
Peggy made an awesome Romaine Salad with Sun-Dried Tomato Vinaigrette, and turned out to be a great bartender. Kristin did the Jack Cheese Breadsticks and had us laughing with her story of running around to 3 grocery stores the night before looking for refrigerated breadstick dough. Not as easy to find out here on the North Shore as you might think! Christine made a yummy sweet potato dish -- not on the menu but we had more people than recipes so somebody had to be creative!
I made the Bourbon-Glazed Salmon, which was so incredibly easy that I felt guilty watching Allie slave over the Wild Mushroom Risotto while the rest of us pigged out on the dip. She felt that it would be better fresh vs. reheated -- and it was fabulous!
For dessert, Patty amended the Blueberry-Peach Galettes recipe, given that neither peaches or blueberries are in season. Her apple-cranberry rendition was delicious, and light enough that no one felt stuffed afterwards.
We split up the leftovers -- next time we'll remember to each bring some Tupperware -- and planned our next meal. Given our great success, we decided to bump it up a notch and go for the "On the Edge" menu. With another shortage of recipes, we decided that whoever hosted last only has to bring wine next time. I'm getting off easy AGAIN!
Lastly, I have to say that in addition to having a wonderful time with great food and new friends, my kitchen was spotless when everyone left. Who could ask for more?!!
Happy Holidays to all from the North Shore of Boston!
