Now that the weather has turned really cold here in PA, Im looking for a chili recipe using ground turkey in it.... I thought I had made one a while back (maybe 1998-ish) from CL that was really good and thick, but I cant seem to find it... Does anyone have one to share??

Well, I'm having trouble copying the recipe, but there was a great turkey chili recipe in the July 2001 issue-spicy turkey chili. I htought it was great! Maybe someone else can post it for you, or I'll try again later, but my dog is hopping up and down here with his legs crossed so I have to go!

Here's a great recipe I've made several times from the Chicago Tribune's Good Eating section...
Turkey Chili with Black Beans and Sweet Peppers
1 tbsp olive oil
1 large red onion, chopped
1 lb ground turkey
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp each: dried oregano, salt
1/2 tsp freshly ground pepper
1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
1 to 2 tsp chopped canned chipotle chilies in adobo sauce
1 bottle (12 oz) beer
1 can (14 oz) black beans
1 red bell pepper, chopped
1 yellow bell pepper, chopped
1/2 cup chopped cilantro
1. Heat oil in large skillet or Dutch oven. Add onion; cook over high heat, stirring, until lightly browned, about 2 minutes. Add turkey and garlic. Cook over high heat, stirring often and breaking up turkey with a spoon, until almost cooked through, about 3 minutes.
2. Add oregano, salt and pepper. Cook 1 minute. Add tomatoes, chipotle chilies and beer. Stir. Cover. Turn heat to medium-low; cook, stirring occasionally, 15 minutes. Add beans with their liquid and bell peppers. Cook, uncovered, 10 minutes. Taste for seasoning. Stir in cilantro; serve in large bowls.
Notes: This quick version can be changed according to what you have on hand. If you don't have black beans, for example, substitute garbanzo beans or black-eyed peas. If no beer is handy, a can of chicken broth can be used instead. And in place of the canned chipotle chilies, you can use a cup of your favorite hot salsa straight from the jar.

Vanessa, I am also allergic and I made the first recipe above printed by slknight ...the White turkey chili and it was great, very easy to put together and very tasty. Enjoy!
jennifer
I made the 2nd recipe slknight posted and it was EXCELLENT!!! I made a few modifications... nixed the tomatoes...used 2 cans of chic broth, only 1 can of beans (by mistake...would use 2 next time) and used fresh tomatillos, chopped added with garlic and shallots. It was incredible!
Thanks for the recipe.

I'm glad you guys liked the recipes! I've never made either one myself (don't usually like beans), but might have to give them a try.
