I have seen several posts from people commenting that they use 1/2 gallon mason jars to store things like lettuce after sealing the jars with their food savers. My question is, where have you found that size mason jar? So far, I've only found pint and quart sizes and would love some of the larger sizes.
Also, I found bags at Sam's the other day for $26--this included two rolls of 8" bags and two rolls of 11" bags. Is that a fairly good deal or have you found better deals elsewhere?
Thanks in advance!:)
After reading posts on the advantages of the food saver, but that it was expensive, I found something called the Eurosaver. It takes 2 AAA batteries and when you press the lever down it heats up. Then you pull say a bag of potato chips, or cereal thgough the equipment and it is sealed. The unit cost $9 and is about the size of the keyboard mouse.

I have several dozen 1/2 gallon jars that I found at garage sales. I have seen them in the grocery stores though. This may not be a good time of year to find them though.

Why not try going to the Ball or Mason jar website and see if you can purchase them direct? I have never seen the 1/2 gallon ones myself - I use the quart ones, but would be interested in getting one or two of the half gallon ones myself for some larger items!

Thanks Grace and Norma--I will look into bothof your suggestions! Sami, you've made me curious about the Eurosaver--does it actually vacuum seal things like the food saver or just seal the bags? Where did you get yours?

Hi Nancy! Can't help you on the mason jar thing, but yes, the $26 for the bags at Sam's Club is a good deal as far as I've found. On the Tilia website they charge $24.99 just for 2 rolls, so the price at Sam's is like getting 2 rolls free. I've never found them much cheaper online either. We got some at Sam's awhile back, too.
BTW, my sister has the Eurosealer and all it does is seal the bag, it does not vacumn. So I think it's kind of like a happy medium between just a bag clip and the Foodsaver.
Nancy,
As Brenda said, it seals bags, but it doesn't produce a vacuum. But it was so cheap that it was hard not to buy it.
I bought it at Lechter's, but they seem to be closing their store. If you have a kitchen place near you, you might ask about it.
