Susann - No, it wasn't my posting at all, I just happened to have it at my computer. Let me see if I can find whose posting it was, and maybe we can flag them for suggestions http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Lorilei

I'm back! It was bijoux22 who posted the recipe...

Texturized Vegetable Protein. I think it is soy based kind of thing used as a meat replacement.

Actually, Carolyn, TVP is quite versatile and it can be used to make a very realistic chicken or beef replacement when properly seasoned. It can be very delicious, and is a WONDERFUL gift to vegetarians who miss the texture that meat lends to many dishes.

Lorilei,
Hope I didn't offend anyone. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif Your description sounds like TOFU--is it basically the same?

Oh, Carolyn, no offense taken http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
Just wanted you to know that TVP isn't as gross as it might sound.

It's a bit like tofu, only in my opinion more like ground beef -- it has more "texture".

Carolyn, I bet you would love Sloppy Joes with TVP! Because the hamburg cooks down to fine pieces, TVP does resemble it in texture. It has tons of protein and NO fat.

I cannot recall who posted this recipe, but it was within the last couple of weeks. Anyway, I am making it this evening, but can't find it. Tried to do a search, but nothing is coming up.

Can someone direct me to the recipe, please?

I made the pie last night and it is really good! I added some smoked gouda the last 5 minutes of baking and also some ground chipotle to the tvp mix. This one is a repeater. Thanks for sharing , Bijoux!

ok Bijoux Sounds like I need to give this TVP a try. What does it look like, and what area in the grocery store do I find it? Is it dairy? Do you think I'll have a problem finding it in Charleston---Oh by the way has anyone tried that recipe for cornbread the name is Awendaw? It was in an issue not that long ago.
That is actually where I live a very small town (don't close your eyes, or you'll miss it) its about 30 miles outside of Charleston SC

hello Carolyn, the easiest way to find tvp is www.bobsredmill.com, (http://www.bobsredmill.com,) just type in TVP it will pop up. At my local health food store - Wild Oats, they sell it in 10oz packages for $2. I think that it makes 2 pies. They do not have it a any regular grocery stores in my area. Good luck and let me know what you think!

Susann, tonight I am going to make a modified Tamale Chipotle Pie (submitted by kentgirl) I will substitute TVP for ground turkey and make my own cornbread mixture and a few other small modifications, I'll let you know if this version is worth passing on.

Thanks for the smoked gouda tip, I am going to give that a try, yum!
