View Full Version : Printing recipes on BB
Okay all! You're all so clever that I was wondering if there were any way to print one recipe off of a long thread without printing the other 52 pages that go with it (okay, I'm exagerating there!). I've been thinking I would try to copy and paste into a word doc and see if that works to print. Any other suggesstions would be mucho appreciated. It seems like there just ought to be a way...........
Okay, I just answered my own question! Don't you love it when you do that? The copy/paste thing works well. I opened a Word Doc and just switched back and forth copying and pasting. Any other suggestions would still be appreciated!
debg, I highlight the recipe or section that I want and then right click the mouse. I chose 'print', and then 'print selection' from the print pop-up-box. Works well. Good luck!

Kathy,
After you've highlighted the text of interest, right-clicking over that text should give you a small menu of which "Print" is one of your choices. Click on Print & the Printer window should come up. In the "Print range" section of that window is where you click on "Selection." Then click OK, & your highlighted selection is printed!
Hope this helps.

Kathy,
Since I'm so quick to left click all the time...I usually just highlight and then do Ctrl P and you'll get the selection option.

Thank you both for your suggestions..for some reason it still isn't working. Print does not show up as an option when I right click and the selection is not available when I hit control P. Do you think I should talk to the guy who sold me my PC? I am getting annoyed! And going through tons of trees!!!

Kathy, I have the same problem; the software, for some reason, doesn't pick up the fact that part of the screen is highlighted, and that's why we aren't getting the "print" option on right-click or the "selection" option in "print range." What browser do you use? I use Netscape, and maybe the problem is there. Anyone else have the problem?
Anyway, what I do is copy and paste into Notepad, which takes up fewer resources than Word. In fact, I usually keep Notepad minimized and ready for action every time I come here so I can copy all the great recipes. Later on, if I want to get fancy, I reformat the Notepad document in Word.

I have the same problem using AOL/Internet Explorer.
Kathy, can you try it the way I suggested in my 2nd post? Open a Word document (blank), highlight the recipe you want to copy, go to edit, copy then retreive Word document, edit then Paste. If you can't print directly to printer this may help cause you can then print the word document with just the recipe you want!
By-the-Bye, thanks for all the terrific ideas!

I have the same problem Kathy has on both my home and work computers. Right clicking and ctr P do not give the option of print/print selection. I guess all computers/program are slightly different.
What I've been doing is printing and then when the recipe I want finally prints (hopefully without going through too much paper) I cancel printing. This is the only solution I have come up with.

One more option:
You can also use the print preview option and view the pages to be printed. Locate which page the recipe is on and tell the printer to only print that page.
If you do not get a menu for print selection by right clicking or CTRL P, you can still print only highlighted material by going to the File in the toolbar and selecting Print from File. You will get a different print menu where you can choose "selection".
I do this since my software will does the same thing.
I keep MasterCook miminized while I am on the web so that I can copy into MC any recipes that I might want to try.

I, too, keep MasterCook open to copy recipes directly into my "Recipes to Try" cookbook. But here's another solution to printing partial pages off the Internet--at least this works for me (I'm on AOL). Highlight the portion you wish to print. Right click, choose Copy. Left click on File in the toolbar at the very top of your screen. Choose New, which will open a small screen on top of your Internet page. Copy your highlighted material to that screen. Then you can go back to File at the very top toolbar, choose Print, and only what you copied to the small screen should print.

I too, have AOL, and what works easiest for me is to highlight what you want to print out, click on the Print icon on the top of the screen, and you will get the Print Menu. In the center of that box is a section called Print Range. Just click on "selection", and then OK, and voila, only what you've selected will print. You will only be able to click the "selection" option if you have something highlighted already. If there is nothing highlighted, that Selection option will be greyed out and won't be an option. Hope that helps.

Grace, as others before us have indicated, the Selection option is greyed out and not available as a choice even when material has been hi-lited. I've tried to figure out why it works for some and not for others. I wonder if the kind of printer has something to do with it. I have an HP Deskjet 722..

I too have that problem. I use Netscape - the options are in the gray area and not a choice. I end up printing everything! Then I recycle the paper by printing on the other side - makes me feel less guilty for all that waste!
Highlight what you want. Then, instead of selecting print from the buttons at the top, Click on File, then print and then at the left of the print screen click selection and it will print only the highlighted material.

I have found that the 'selection' choice is available when I use Microsoft Internet Explorer, but not with Netscape.
