I just wanted to remind y'all to scour used bookstores when searching for Cooking Light cookbooks and annuals. They're much less costly!

I am interested to hear about this book as I already have the five star best of CL from 4 years ago. Does this book have a lot of duplications from five star?
Any other comments on the book's recipes as a whole?
Thank you

Me again, I too have subscribed for many years - but just love this book - everything looks great and not difficult and certainly doesn't look like a 'low fat cookbook' - I do not have the 5 star one and same question - are there a lot of duplications - I too buy toooooooooooooooooooooo many mags and cookbooks and hate to throw out for fear I will miss 'the recipe' - thought this CL would stop from buying all the 'other' ones - still look forward to the mag coming though. I have to tell you that Raspberry Balsamic Chicken was out of this world and that was just with a 'quick' peak - have given it out to 3 people at the mall (walkers) this morning already - love it!

I also have mag,98,99,2000 Annuals, Five-Star (my favorite) and just purchased Complete Cookbook. In my opinion the Complete Cookbook has duplications from the annuals, but one thing that puzzles me is some recipes in the "complete" have been altered. Calories & fat% is slightly different. One of my favorite foods is the Buttermilk Pancakes. My Annual says to use FF Buttermilk the "complete version" says Lowfat. I found other recipe alterations that I thought was really odd. Has anyone else found this?

Do you think it is silly to purchase the 5 Star one as well - someone mentioned it was their 'fav' - is the complete newer than the 5 star?

Carolyn,
Yes, I found that, too. The recipe for Fettucine Alfredo has been altered as well. I'm not sure why they did this, maybe they found a better way or based the changes on reader's comments.
Lanie, The 5 Star Cookbook came out about 5 years ago and contained the favories from when the mag started publishing until then. The Complete Cookbook has the top 10% of recipes from the start of the mag until the present. I guess some of the older recipes dropped out of the Complete Cookbook to make room for the top recipes from '95 till now, but there is definitely overlap.
I have both cookbooks and use them all the time...

Hi Lanie, in answer to your question--Five-Star has the best recipes of the first 10 years (if I'm not mistaken). Which is excellent, this book was created first. Complete was just released and it also has Favorite recipes that were taken from way back when. I have both books, so what does that tell you HEEHEE

I have made the Pork Chops Braised in Country Gravy (pg 330) about 3 times. Everyone loves it and doesn't know it low-fat. Also the Garlic-Rosemary Roasted Chicken is wonderful, especially if you love garlic. And the Roast Chicken with Garlic Gravy.

How do you long-time CL readers like the new book? I have lots of old issues of CL and the cookbooks from 86, 87, 88, 97 (or is it 98?) and 2000. Is there alot of duplication? Do you subscribe to the magazine, buy the annual cookbook and discard the magazines? If you get the Complete cookbook, do you not need the annual one?
I'm part Scottish (thrifty or cheap, depending on your point of view) and a packrat -- even though I have the annual 2000 cookbook I still have the 99 magazines (pardon me while I go to the "Messies anonymous" website)-- love to look at the pictures and I make notations in the magazine as I try recipes. I think I'm addicted to cookbooks, but am trying to add a little restraint to my life but still not miss anything!
