Does anyone have a subscription to Mode Magazine?
I just realized that I have not received the last 2 issues...my subscription should go until Oct 2002 according to the mailing label...and I just sent an e-mail to the circulation dept...only to have it come back "undeliverable"...I know if something is up...SOMEONE on this BB will know!

I also subscribe, and as I read your post, realized that I haven't received one in a while (I can think of the last cover I received, just not the month!:p ) I also have an extended subscription, so I should be getting them for a while still. I'll check at work (library) to see if we have newer copies than the one I'm thinking of. If I can find a #, I may try to call, too.

I just got a postcard on Wednesday that the October 2001 issue was the last one published for Mode. They are plannng on filling the remainder of my subscription with Woman's Day magazine.

I'm pretty bummed - although I'd gotten a little disenchanted with Mode, it did feel a need in the fashion magazine community. I'm not sure what happened to it, since it always seemed to be full of advertising. I"m going to guess that it was a victim of the 9/11 business market fall-out.

I too just received my post card in the mail:( -- I have enjoyed MODE magazine as a source for plus sized women. I also think that they've headed down hill over the past few months--away from positive women issues toward a Cosmo-girl oriented style.

Well-- I don't particularly care for Woman's Day either, so I'll probably cancel.

Here's the deal on Mode's demise, as reported by the Wooden Horse Publishing News Alert, www.woodenhorsepub.com , a web site that tracks the magazine industry:

Mode's founders, Julie Lewit-Nirenberg and Nancy Nadler-LeWinter, sold 50 percent of the magazine to a company called Freedom Magazines. (That might explain the shift in editorial direction).

But, according to Wooden Horse, "Freedom is a business-to-business publisher and Mode was its only consumer title. This became a problem when beauty and fashion advertisers demanded the kind of multiple-magazine deals they’re used to getting with other publishers. Cosmetics advertisers just weren’t interested in Freedom’s additional titles, such as CLINICAL GERIATRICS, FIELD FORCE AUTOMATION and LATIN TRADE."

So, even though Mode had 600,000 subscribers, it's gone. You can find the whole story at www.woodenhorsepub.com/newsalerts/na9-28-01.html

I didn't subscribe, but I did like to pick it up on the newstand every once in a while (actually, I mostly read it at the hairdresser's). It did fill a need, though. With the plus-size fashion market becoming more of a draw, I wonder if any of the "established" fashion mags will try to spin off a Mode-style magazine?
